“I’m in my car on break. No one can hear me.”

“There’s that.”

“What are you going to do?”

“Hell if I know.”

“You need to talk to Mason.”

“Lila, I’m just getting to know the guy. How do I even approach something like this?”

“Flat out like you always do.”

I push back from my desk and look to the ceiling. “You know, shit was simpler before that date. It’s all your fault, you know that?”

She gives a little chuckle. “At least your getting come action out of it.”

“Yeah. Look I need to get some work done. I’ll call you later.”

“Talk to Mason and don’t let that douche get to you. You’re not a whore or a skank. Because if you were I would’ve already told you.”

To this I smile. “Yeah babe. I know you would’ve. Later.”

“Later.”

I drown myself in paperwork completely taking my mind off of the incident in the elevator, when my phone rings. It’s five twenty-seven, time to go home, but I answer it anyway because I’m always on call. One of the downsides of my job.

“Hello.”

“Aiden, it’s Mason.”

My breath hitches and I look to the number on the screen not recognizing it. Not that he gave me his number to begin with.

“Hey.” The word comes out a bit breathy and I kick myself.

“Are you okay? I saw the tapes.”

Confusion hits. “The tapes?”

“Security of the elevator. What did he say to you, Aiden?”

Oh fuck. The anger coming through the phone line is like a snake ready to strike with its venom. I’m just happy that I’m not the one he wants to strike.

“He’s not happy I was with you in your office. Of course I didn’t tell him any of this he just assumed. He said that I was fucking his boss. Called me a few names and grabbed my arm. Needless to say he’s angry. I’m so sorry Mason. He said that he’s going to tell everyone that you’re fucking me. Smear my name. Says he’s been looking me up.”

“I’ll kill him.”

While it’s great that I have someone in my corner that wants to stick up for me, thisI’ll kill himdoesn’t sound like one Lila would give. No, this one sounds lethal and it’s kind of freaking me out a bit. Not for me, but for the dick Drake.

“Mason, I’m fine. He just has problems. Don’t do anything.”

“He’s done. He assaulted you in my building. He’s done.”

“Mason, I…”

“Are you okay?” He cuts me off and it feels damn good that someone cares and is worried about me.

“Yes, I’m perfectly fine Mason. Please, don’t hurt him.”

He chuckles. “I don’t need to hurt him physically to get my point across, Aiden. Be at my house at seven.”

“Okay.”

“Bye baby.”

Holy hell, he just called me baby. As if his words didn’t already make me a pile of melted butter, that one just about does me in.

“Bye.”

I spend the next couple of hours getting ready and hoping that Mason doesn’t get in trouble for me.
