She looked at him.“It was.I feel bad for getting two wedding nights.”
He grinned.“Do you?I can line up penance for you.”
She laughed.“No, I mean Hever was so generous.”
“Ah, that.Well, she felt your pain, your loss, and your lack of support.”He stroked her hair.“She was trying to celebrate you.”
“And you had nothing to do with it.”
“Not really.Well, a little.Well, I found a few things for the prefect to make the day easier.”
“Aw, you are such a softie.”She patted his chest.
Worro asked, “Are you sure you want kids?”
“Yes.Why?Wellin wants to be an uncle in the worst way.”
He snorted.“Of course he does.Well, I keep looking for something, and when I find it, I will let you know.”
“Thanks.Nice to know you can beat peeing on a stick.”
He laughed and kissed her.“I will put that on my business card.”
She giggled against his mouth, and they slowly began to move together again.It was the first day of a new year, and the possibilities were bright.

Riithan was sittingwith Salmet and looking at the files.“I recognize one of these women.The others aren’t known to me.This is horrific.”
Salmet looked at the pictures of little Hever.She shuddered and closed the file.
“What about the other issue?Keera?”
“We are going to offer her a settlement for allowing the interference that nearly cost her everything.Her family has been located and is being charged with abandonment of her mother.Their belongings will be seized and businesses closed.”
Salmet paused.“They were poor.How did they get ahead?”
“They sold their children and grandchildren.All daughters.It was lucrative.”
Salmet cursed.“Fucking hell.Is this common?”
“Thankfully, no.The bloodline was scouted, and they were priced accordingly.”
She rubbed her head.“Cloud needs to know.And Yahtana.She isn’t Sethir, but what concerns her sisters concerns her.”
“Cloud is also of Keera’s direct line?”
“Full sister.”
“Then she should know.Keera and Cloud will receive their family’s entire property if we can’t locate additional heirs.There were two other girls sold that we can determine.”
“Why doesn’t this ever get any easier?”Salmet asked softly.
Ylara spoke from her husband’s side.“Because the more you learn, the deeper it goes, and the result is not usually a happy thing.”
Riithan took her hand.“We are trying to purge the alpha obsession from our people, but it is a slow thing.We are still working to integrate our people, but there is a fixation on a working and easy link.Plus, omegas are so damned relaxing.”
