There was a beat of silence before Raven’s lips split into a grin. “You still have the Mustang?” Jax nodded, a smile creeping on his own lips. That Mustang had been his first adult purchase, and it held enough memories of Raven to keep him warm on the nights they had been separated. “Any chance you’ll let me drive it?” she murmured, taking a step closer to him.

He saw the mischievous glint in her eyes, a stark contrast to moments before when she looked like the world sat on her shoulders. Whatever caused the mood shift, Jax was glad for it. This was the side of Raven he enjoyed verbally sparring with and teasing.

Jax closed the remaining distance, watching the fire dance behind her golden eyes—luring him in like a bee to her sweet honey. “Do you even remember how to drive stick?”

She laughed, the sound only pulling him deeper into her web. “I think I did pretty well in the locker rooms. Do you need another demonstration, Detective Pierce?”

Jax swallowed his groan. The imprint of her greedy walls sucking him deeper inside of her had him fighting not to drag her back into the locker rooms.

This was such a wicked game to play, one they had played well throughout their relationship. The pull between them had been magnetic—potent to the point of delirium. Raven had been inside of him as much as he had been inside of her. He could feel her every breath, every pulse, every beat of her wild heart inside of his body right now. Jax knew it would be all too easy to slip back into the pattern of fucking each other into oblivion only for them to find an excuse to part ways again, and Jax didn’t want that.

Jax let out a breath trying to will the blood in his body out of his dick and back into his brain. He reached for her, cupping the side of her neck, and used his thumb to trace her bottom lip. Her tongue teased his thumb before she pulled it into her wet mouth and sucked on it.

He didn’t hold back his groan this time, knowing all the wicked things Raven could do with her mouth had scorched the ground between them. Her eyes were a blaze of golden bright light one would expect around an angel, but even the devil was an angel once.

“How about a raincheck on that demonstration, Ms. Wright?” It physically pained him to turn her down. “It’s been a long night.”

A shadow passed behind her eyes, and Jax instantly regretted bringing up the hell that landed in their laps. “Promises, promises,” Raven whispered before trying and failing to hide a yawn. “Okay,” Raven chuckled. “Maybe you are right. I am suddenly exhausted. Take me home, Jax.”

Run, run, Raven

As fast as you can.

Hide amongst your false savior

He can’t protect you

He’ll bleed just the same.

I think I’ll cut his heart out,

A gift to my Raven.

Run, run, Raven

The chase is always fun.

The car ride from Lush to Raven’s house wasn’t a long one, but Jax had taken the scenic route, stretching the hour ride into a longer one. Raven wasn’t complaining, though. The wind blowing in her hair with the warm autumn air wrapping around her skin had been a welcomed distraction. There wasn’t a cloud in the night sky and the stars had seemed particularly brighter tonight—lighting their way to her house.

The Mustang purred underneath her seat, and Raven gripped her thigh with her left hand to keep from reaching out to touch Jax. The interior of the Mustang smelled of Jax mixed in with the crisp air and it heightened her senses. There were too many memories for Raven to shift through being inside his Mustang again. The memories curled around her like a lover’s embrace, making her pulse jackhammer inside of her, and when she glanced in Jax’s direction and saw his grip on the steering wheel tighten, she knew she wasn’t alone in her thoughts.

Raven let out a sigh and settled back in the passenger seat. They still had a long way to go, and while she wanted to push him away back when they were in the locker rooms, she was glad he pushed back. She hadn’t wanted to be alone, and she also needed to see where his head was at after their time in the Paradise room. It was the first time she’d known Jax to even entertain someone of the same sex to touch him as intimately as she had touched him. For a man brought up by religion and society looking down on those behaviors—calling them sins, she could only imagine the internal dialogue he was shifting through now that he was out of detective mode.

“What’s going on in that head of yours, Raven?” Jax murmured as he readjusted his grip on the steering wheel. “And don’t tell me nothing,” he glanced over at her for a second, a smile teasing his lips. “I can still read you well enough to know your mind is going a mile a minute.”

Raven let her laugh slip as she adjusted herself in the passenger seat. “I’m not saying you’re right, but I was actually wondering where your head was at after being in the Paradise room. That’s the first time you’ve engaged in that type of act.” This time she didn’t hesitate to touch him, and she let her hand fall on his thigh. “No judgment, and I won’t be mad at whatever you tell me either. Tonight didn’t go as smoothly as it probably should have, I would have taken the time to talk to you after but…” she let the words fall away, not daring to let the bloody white rose petals and dead body enter the peace she was struggling to hold on to.

“Ahh, you mean after I let another man touch me?” Jax kept his focus on the road, and she watched his body movement, waiting for him to tense or grip the steering wheel, but he seemed to relax in the driver seat, still totally in control. “I’ll let you in on a little secret, Rave. That wasn’t the first time I’ve engaged in sexual acts with another man.”

Raven had to force her lungs to move to get air back into her body. She felt like her ears had clogged as she went through every memory, every conversation, every argument that had ever come up between them, looking for the lie in the words he’d just spoken.

“I’m not gay, Raven, why the fuck would you think I want to engage in any sexual activity regarding another man?” he snapped, his temper had burned nearly as hot as hers. She couldn’t remember what started this fight this time or how they had even got here, but nothing she said had ever suggested he was gay.

“You and your fucking labels, Pierce. This has nothing to do with that. It’s about pleasure—pure uninhibited blinding pleasure. You have no issue jerking off to me and another woman, but you’re ready to pop a freaking blood vessel if I wanted to cum watching another man suck your cock.” She clenched her fists. This argument was pointless and stupid and exhausting, but she couldn’t let up. “If I put a blindfold on you and tied your hands behind your back, you wouldn’t be able to tell whose mouth was on you. An orgasm is still an orgasm no matter whose mouth gets you there.”

Jax seethed, his body was taut as if she’d hit a nerve. “I’m not gay, Raven. It goes against everything I believe in.”

That argument had been one of the many repeats that occurred every time they got back on this relationship ride together, and now with his admission, it started to make sense. Raven always suspected he had the same hunger as her when it came to sex—there weren’t too many limits Raven had so long as everything was consensual. It was why she didn’t shy away from who she was and what she wanted from their sexual experience as a couple, but he always seemed to aggressively shut her down and was quick to throw his religion in her face.
