With a rifle—

BANG!

My pretty little Raven

It won’t be long till

I’ve plucked your feathers from your skin

And bathed in the blood of your sins.

Danny watched from a distance as the boys in blue finally found the dead body. Danny was surprised that it had taken them as long as it did to find the trail of blood that had been purposely left to lead a mouse into a trap, but Danny couldn’t fault the cops for their negligence. Lush was a playground for sex and desire; even a saint would surely fall prey to the temptations that riddled a place like this. Danny chuckled, watching the cops’ lingering stares against the half-naked men and women who hadn’t been able to retrieve their clothes before the cops rushed in to save the day.

Danny knew what hunger was, it coursed through their system even now—even after the kill that should have eased the ache in their body. But Danny could never sate their hunger, not with Raven Wright close enough to touch and taste.

It thrilled Danny to watch the pretty little Raven break in mid-air. One moment she was strong and steady and the next—snap—one of her wings had broken when she saw the message causing her to stumble mid-flight:

Can you see me?

A golden sun would die.

Raven hadn’t looked around Lush like Danny hoped, but seeing her vacant expression instead had been a pleasant surprise. Danny thought for sure Raven would have held it together in front of her court—a queen can’t show her court the crack in her walls.

Stoic and strong Raven—the unbreakable had proven how easily it was to break, and Danny hadn’t gotten a chance to touch her yet.

Raven had been rushed off of the floor by Jax fucking Pierce. Once the detective always the detective though, Danny figured he had given up his badge for her in some noble gesture to prove he wasn’t one of the good guys. The poor bastard didn’t understand the game being played. Raven didn’t belong to him and no grand gesture was going to change that.

Danny steadily watched the door Raven had been ushered through, waiting to see what state the proud Raven would be in when she crawled out of her hole. Thirty minutes had gone by, not enough time to fix the broken wing but enough to put a bandage on it and pretend it was healed.

When the door pushed open, Danny’s eyes narrowed to see Jax step through first looking flushed and sated like he’d spent the last thirty minutes inside of Raven. Danny couldn’t bite back the annoyance they felt when Raven came into view next—hair a mess as if Jax’s fingers had run through it. The skin around her neck was red and there was a flush that coated her skin that only ever appeared after she had cum.

Fucking bitch.

Danny’s broken little Raven had not only fixed her wing but she put a coat of armor around herself going by the steady and determined gaze in her eyes as she walked right back toward the Paradise room.

Pretty little Raven, one day you’ll fall and there won’t be anyone to help you get back up.

Jax stifled a yawn. This night had been long, his body had been thoroughly used in the best way, and he wasn’t complaining. He truly hadn’t meant for things to go as far as they did with Raven in the locker rooms. His goal when he took her down there was to give her room and time to breathe without Cruz throwing accusations at her while she was in the middle of a massive panic attack.

He slowed his gate to let Raven catch up to him. She hadn’t said anything to him after her climax. He could still feel her warmth around him and his greedy cock was already thickening for another taste, but going by the hardness in her features and the way she carried herself like a queen getting ready to address her court, Jax knew she was going to try and push him away again.

The chuckle slipped from his lips before he could stop himself. This really was a madness he couldn’t escape. The definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for different results. Jax wasn’t sure why he thought this time would be different, that she would let him in, especially after what went down tonight. He might no longer have his badge, but he retained his connections. Cruz might have an issue with her, but he was a cop through and through he wasn’t going to let some creep run rampant if that’s what this was.

Raven’s gaze cut to him as they continued toward the Paradise room. “Is there something amusing that’s going on tonight that’s causing you to laugh?” Her tone was sharp, doing her damndest to cut him into pieces with just words.

Jax swore under his breath and reached for her. He turned her to face him before they reached Cruz and Danielle. “Don’t do that, Rave.”

“Do what?” she bit back.

Jax kept his hold on her wrist, feeling the erratic pulse under his fingertips. He looked her over, taking in her swollen lips from his kisses and the mark on her neck that he didn’t mean to leave there but he was glad he did all the same.

Was it juvenile? Absolutely, but he didn’t particularly care right now.

She looked freshly fucked and something dark inside of him started to whisper in his ear to take her again and again so she always looked like that. He ignored it, refocusing on why he stopped her. “Me and you have history, Raven. We can spout this bullshit that we’ve grown into different people, but I’ve known you at almost every stage in your adult life.”

Raven pulled herself free from his hold, and he balled his hands into fists to keep from reaching out for again, fully aware that there were eyes on them. Jax felt them, but it was different than earlier. This didn’t feel like curious glances from the customers and the employees. This felt sinister, and without moving his head, he scanned the crowd that was still there, but no one was new. It was the same customers, employees, and cops who had been here before he had taken Raven down to the locker rooms.

“I’m sure there’s a point here.” Her tone made him laugh despite himself.
