“They wouldn’t know serious if it bit them on their well-used cocks.”

“Ouch.”

We glare at each other for a long few minutes.

“So are you saying that Franco is a better option?” she asks.

I heave a sigh of epic proportions. “Okay, now that is ouch. You know I don’t sleep around and besides Franco was a knee-jerk reaction because Thatcher was there breathing down my neck.”

“You could’ve cancelled.”

“True, but I hoped it would get the guys off my back. Was it shitty of me? Yes, I know that, but I doubt Franco is crying into his coffee over it.”

She snorts. “Oh, this is good stuff. You couldn’t make it up.”

“Fuck off.”

We exchange a smile, but then she goes serious and looks away. “I have to confess something.”

“Let me guess. You’ve been helping JP and his crew get to me?” I ask sardonically. I mean, someonehad to tell them what my favourite song was. It’s old, and a stab in the dark just isn’t possible.

Her gaze shoots back to mine. “How did you know?”

“They know some stuff. I can only imagine it was you. Plus, you were trying to get me to go to drinks with them, andI bet you had something to do with Elle’s drinks thing the night I got flu.”

“Hear me out…”

“No,” I say, not angrily, but fed the fuck up of these guys taking over my life. “Look, players don’t change. They look for challenges and then get bored when the challenge is over. And we’re talking about three of them. Even if I did fancy all of them, how would that even work?”

“Well, it’s quite simple, yet complex at the same time,” Cass says, nodding sagely. “You see, there’s various aspects to the sexual nature of a poly relationship…”

“It was rhetorical,” I snap, but all I can think about now are various scenes where I’m having sex with three different guys. God. What are they doing to me?

“Can we not talk about them anymore, please?”

“Sure. You’ve made your feelings clear, and I won’t say another word, for or against.” She holds her hands.

“Thanks,” I say, taking it at face value and dropping the subject. “So, who do you think my mum has lined up?” I snort to get the night back on track.

She lets out a loud laugh. “Oh, my God! I cannot wait to see. He’ll be perfect for you, though. I know your mum. Nothing less than the best for her baby. I wonder if she’s got more than one? Like a runner-up?”

I giggle. “I wouldn’t put it past her.”

“Aww, Stormy Rivers, all grown up and ready to marry.” She gets a bit teary. “Please don’t ditch me when you’re all loved up.”

“Don’t be daft. We are besties for life and the afterlife.”

She grins, happy with my reassurance.

But the cloud scurries back over my head when I think about Emma.

“What is it?” Cassidy asks, sensing the mood change suddenly.

“Do you know a woman called Emma? Blonde, pretty?”

She nods slowly. “Emma Franks? What did she do? Whatever it is, do not believe a word of it. She thought I was getting it on with Thatcher, and she clam-slammed me so fucking hard, I thought she was about to get physical. She told me she and Thatcher were hooking up inelite, but I know it’s not true.”

I blink at that info dump. “What? Why did she think you were getting it on with them?” The pang of hurt and irrational jealousy I feel over that startles me, but I push it back.
