Needing to know what Nico thinks about all of this, I head out of the sitting room but bump into Cain on my way out.

“Sophia,” he says. “How are you?”

My heart thumps when I take in his blue eyes and annoying face. Only this time, his face isn’t as annoying as usual. It’s hot and sexy and different to Trent’s, but again, it’s the eyes. Trent’s are full of life, whereas Cain’s are haunted. Atlas’s have a desire in them, but it’s dark and delicious.

Oh, dear.

I think I may be getting a bit carried away, not to mention big-headed, to think that all of these men might even find me remotely attractive.

“Sophia?”

Cain's concerns interrupt my wild thoughts. “Uhm, fine. You?”

Oh, so, so, lame, Sugar.

He chuckles. “Good. I’m glad you’re okay. You seemed in shock and upset last night. Don't worry, we’ll get Enzo and end him.”

I blink a couple of times, wondering how to answer that. In the end, I divert the subject with the only thing I can come up with on the spot, and once it’s out of my mouth, I cringe.

“So, I met your other triplet. Trent.”

His eyes go hard. “Did you?”

“He’s nice.” For fuck’s sake, woman. Shut the fuck up.

“Is he? I wouldn’t know.” His jaw is clenched so tight, he must be giving himself a massive headache.

“Oh. Why is that?” As reluctant as he is, I want to draw him into a conversation about this. Don’t ask me why, but it seems important.

“Never knew about him, or Atlas until recently.”

I need to know more.

“Can I ask why?”

“Does it matter?”

I back up a step at his anger. “I guess not.”

“Jesus. Sorry, I didn’t mean to growl at you. I’m just…my head is fucked. I grew up in a really shitty situation after being dumped on the side of the road, but now it appears I wasn’t dumped alone, but my two brothers got better families than me. Sort of. I mean…fuck.” He drops his head into his hands, despondent.

“I’m sorry.” I reach out and place a hand on his shoulder.

“No, I am. It’s not your fault, and I shouldn’t have yelled. I’m a dick.”

“Well, I can’t argue with that.” He looks up, his eyes furious, but he lightens up when he sees me smiling.

“I thought Trent was part of your abduction,” he says with a sigh.

I shake my head. “Not exactly. I mean, he didn’t let me go, but he wasn’t there when it happened. It’s complicated.”

Suddenly, I feel the need to come completely clean with him.

“He was there for me when I needed him.”

The air sizzles between us as Cain takes in that piece of information.

“You mean when you were in heat?”
