“You think you have a chance at that?”

His incredulity doesn’t faze me.

I chuckle obnoxiously. “Have you seen me?”

“Unfortunately, yes,” he drawls. “Ugly fucker. She isn’t some cheap whore who will fall into bed with you, and she is not a toy to be fought over to piss your brother off. I may not stand a chance in the long run, but I will protect her to the end.”

“Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition, though, is there. She is an adult. She can decide if she wants my cock inside her or not.”

“Have to get her back first.”

“Do you know where she is?” The lack of panic has me seriously curious. Why aren’t they flapping more?

“I know who she’s with, which is a start. So, if you don’t mind, I need to findwhere.”

“If I can help…you know where to find me.”

He grunts and waves me off.

I take my leave, feeling at a bit of a loose end. Oddly, I don’t find myself pissed off with Nico’s double cross. Maybe if we were still in the game, but the game has changed. The stakes are higher. The prize is still Sophia, but this time instead of wanting to make her bend to my will, I feel the need to bend to hers instead.

This is going to get interesting.

ChapterTwenty-Nine

Sugar

Tossing my body around once more in my nest, the glow of the moon shining in through the window, I make a noise of frustration and throw the covers back.

My heat seems to have died down now, thankfully, seeing as there is no alpha around to help me through it. But all I can smell is Trent’s gorgeous summer rain scent mingled with Carter’s watermelon flavour after he touched the t-shirt. It’s driving me to the point where sleep is eluding me, and all I can think are thoughts that are naughty, sexy and painfully out of my reach.

Carter is something else.

When I first saw him in my living room at home, I was as disinterested as an omega can be in an alpha, but now.

Oh.

My.

God.

He ishot. Fucking, gorgeously, dirty-sexy hot with his manly attitude and control.

A soft knock followed by Enzo calling my name draws my thoughts back to the present.

“Sophia? Can I come in?”

“Yeah,” I call out and fling the covers back over me.

He unlocks the door and opens it, sticking his head around, an apologetic expression on his face.

“Forgive me for keeping my distance, cara. I didn’t think it was appropriate to hang around.”

I snort in amusement and forgive him instantly. “Nothing to apologise for. I get it.” Narrowing my eyes, I jump on the opening I’ve been handed right out of the gate. “Trent was helpful.”

Enzo’s gaze hardens. “Oh, was he?”

I nod, but he doesn’t say anything else. What can he say? I’m an adult and an omega who was in her heat. I think he chooses to blissfully ignore the entire situation and clears his throat.
