ChapterTwenty-Six

Faith

My insides are quivering. I was so scared to face Sebastian alone with my apology, but he accepted it with grace, and I thank God. If he’d gotten angry and wanted to throw me out, I’d have been gutted on a level that shocks me. I want to stay here so badly with these alphas, it’s frightening.

He takes my hand and leads me over to the sofa near the fireplace. Lindsey, the maid, had restarted the fire while Sebastian was in the shower, and I was tidying up. She seems nice, but the idea of having a maid when I used tobea maid of sorts is quite daunting. I don’t think I can get used to someone cleaning up after me. Perhaps, I’ll have a word with her to leave my stuff and I’ll deal with it.

“So, what do you want to do today?” I ask when he doesn’t say anything.

“This,” he says and wraps his arms around me, drawing me close to him.

I inhale his gorgeous woodsy-rain scent and smile. “I guess I don’t have to askyouhow you became a member of this pack,” I say with a laugh.

He chuckles. “Long line of it being passed down from father to son.”

“So you’ll need a son to pass it along to,” I say before I realise what I'm saying. “Err…” I blush like a fiend, my cheeks on fire.

He gazes at me, those blue eyes dancing with amusement. “That’s the idea.”

“How come you decided to mate a single omega as a pack?” I ask to deflect from the idea that I’m the one who is supposed to give him a son. What if I don’t? What if I only give him daughters? Or no babies at all?

“Well, that’s easy,” he says, settling back with me in his arms. “We are a very close pack. If we had all gone off to mate separately, we wouldn’t be as close anymore. None of us really wanted that, plus Xander is…high maintenance. He needs us.”

“That’s really sweet, that you care about him so much.”

“He’s my brother. I wouldn’t abandon him for anything in this world. But it’s not just about him. It’s something we want to do as a pack. I assume you’re okay with that?”

Oh, more than. It’s all I ever wanted to have more than one to love and have them love me back.

“Mm-hm. Have you ever shared a woman before?” I ask, wanting to get that out there before I chicken out.

The look he gives me is tinged with surprise, admiration as well as something akin to shyness. “No,” he states with such finality, I know that subject is shut down dead.

“Oh.”

An awkward silence descends. Well, it probably isn’t awkward for him. It’s just me being that lemon again. “And what do you do for a living?”

Dammit, Faith.

I am so fucking boring. I hope they don’t meet up to discuss what I asked them. I’ll be so humiliated.

“I work with my father at the Inter-pack Parliament. I’m a facilitator, of sorts.”

“What do you facilitate?”

“Stuff.”

I blink and turn my face away from his. Christ. He must think I’m a complete numpty that he can’t even explain his job to me.

“Sorry, that was rude,” he says after a beat. “It’s complicated.”

“You mean you sort out inter-pack problems using force?” I ask to his surprise.

He lets out a small laugh. “Something like that.”

“You don’t have to hide yourself from me, Sebastian,” I point out huffily. “The idea of this time is to get to know you.”

“I am not trying to hide myself, just that part. I don’t want you to think less of me.” He is avoiding my gaze by staring into the fire.
