I think it comes from my mum’s side. My dad’s side is all fiery Scots, whereas Mum’s family are laid back English folk. Stiff upper lip and all that shite.

Making my way back up to the first floor, I let out a sigh at the top of the stairs. Xander is already sniffing about.

“Go,” I say in a voice that holds no emotion. It’s the one he tends to respond to the most. The barest hint of anything and it sends him swinging one way or the other.

“Nope.”

“Don’t make me haul your arse back to your bedroom. Seb said stay away.”

“Can’t.” He is on all fours sniffing under the door for fuck’s sake.

“Give her a bit of peace and dignity. You’re like a dog with a bone.” I snicker. “Make that boner.”

He lifts his head up with a wicked smile. “When do we get to see her again?”

“Tomorrow. Leave her be tonight.”

Xander, surprisingly, does as I ask, and moves away, loping down the hallway on all fours. I don’t think I’ve seen the last of him yet.

Moving over to the door, I sit down, legs outstretched, facing it. It’s quiet inside. I guess she must’ve been exhausted and fallen asleep. One can only hope anyway. I don’t want her to be scared or worried. Although this isn’t the best situation. I never expected her to bolt like she did. She is definitely running from somebody. Whoever it is, I intend to find out and remove that threat from her life.

“What’s your name?” A soft voice filters through the door.

“Harvey, what’s yours?”

“You don’t know?” Her surprise is evident.

“Nope.”

“Faith.”

I smile. “It’s a beautiful name.”

“Thanks,” she murmurs. “Why have you abducted me?”

“Who are you running from?”

She pauses at my question asked instead of answering hers.

“No one.”

Her reply was short and evasive.

“Don’t believe you.”

“Can you smell lies as well?” she asks archly.

I snort. “No, that’s Xander’s trick. He is very in tune with his inner alpha.”

“Xander?”

“Blonde, feral…”

“Ocean-breeze.”

“Pardon?”

“He smells like the ocean,” she says, almost wistfully.
