“Please, don’t take it personally,” I blurt out, desperate to fix this mess.

“How can I not?” he blurts back.

“It’s nothing to do with any of you. You have been kind and caring, okay apart from hunting and abducting me, but after that. It’s me. I trusted my dad and he broke that trust. He died and left me, and I’ve suffered because of it.”

“Oh, baby girl,” he murmurs, drawing me to him. “I know you have, and we will take care of that arsewipe. But if you can’t trust us, then wedohave a problem.”

I snuffle into his shirt and nod. “I’m sorry. I know I have no right to ask you this, but that guy said he hurt Derek, and he had his phone… please, can you try to find him, make sure he’s okay?”

“He’s fine,” Sebastian says quickly. “Derek is downstairs. His phone was stolen yesterday.”

“Oh, thank God.” I let out a relieved breath. “How much trouble are you all in?”

“None. Don’t worry about us. Get some rest, Faith, and then you need to apologise to the other alphas and your brother for scaring the pubes off us. If you’re comfortable enough for now, we’ll leave off taking you to the hospital tonight and go tomorrow.”

“I don’t want to go. I’m fine.”

“Doc says you need an x-ray.”

“Doesn’t Dr. Fancy-pants have a portable one?”

Sebastian snickers. “I suppose I could throw him an extra few grand to find one, but only because it suitsmeto keep you here safe and sound,” he adds sternly.

“Noted,” I mumble. “I’ll come and find you when I’ve slept a bit more. My head is fuzzy.”

He nods absently and gets up. With a kiss to the top of my head, he crosses over to the door and leaves, shutting it behind him. I hear the key turn in the lock, and I sigh.

“Yep, you deserve that, Faith. Totally and utterly deserve it.”

I turn on my side and curl up, and despite the agony of the wait to speak to the other alphas, I still fall asleep again within minutes, aided by Dr. Fancy-pants’ meds.

Pacing up and down, in front of the fire in Seb’s office, I’m just irritating myself further.

“Let me go and speak to her,” I demand of Sebastian.

“Nope.”

“Why do you get to decide?”

“Because if I didn’t, you would be up there yelling at her and making her feel worse than she already does.”

“Not fair,” I growl, but pissed off that he knows I'd yell at her. Not to make her feel bad, but to let her know how fucking worried I was about her.

He shrugs and goes back to his work.

“Can I go?” Derek ventures.

“Nope.”

“Fuck’s sake.”

“She needs some time on the naughty step. She needs to learn that she can’t run off on a whim and make us chase her down and save her from idiot arseholes who want to take her and mate with her. In case you’ve forgotten, she isours.”

“Then we need to fucking step up and show her we are.”
