I shove the phone in my pocket and glance at the tray of food. My mouth starts to water. It’s all delicious looking sandwiches and biscuits, cake and juice. Bottled water as well.
I pick it up and kick the door to my nest further open. I place the tray on the floor and step over it to curl up in the softest, cosiest duvet I’ve ever known and start to eat.
What they do next is up to them.
I’m not stopping what I’m doing to please them.
Not this time.
They can totally get knotted.
ChapterSixteen
Faith
I wait for them to do or say something, but nothing happens for a few minutes. Just me eating my way through the gorgeous feast in front of me.
I soon start to feel a lot better, not just in myself but about this situation.
“Am I a prisoner here?” I ask bluntly after I swallow a mouthful of the most delicious, fresh cream Victoria Sponge.
“No, of course not,” Sebastian says quickly. “Are you ready to hear our explanation?”
“I was ready the second I came out of the bathroom.”
“Oh, ah…of course.”
I try to hide my smile. Despite this being a very scary situation, having been hunted down, bound and snatched off the street by four strangers and locked in a room overnight, I don’t actually feel like I’m in danger.
Maybe my judgement is impaired by the pre-heat. Maybe not.
Sebastian clears his throat and leans over to rest his elbows on his knees. Xander drops to all fours and crawls over to me slowly.
I keep my eyes on him warily.
“Can I sit near you?” he asks quietly, his eyes screaming his plea at me.
I blink and nod slowly.
His look of relief twangs over my heart as he settles against the wall to the side of the wardrobe door.
“About three months ago our pack beta, Matt, came home from a night out at a pub in the East End called the Hand and Dagger,” Sebastian starts, drawing my gaze back to him.
East London.
Three months ago.
Beta.
Oooooh, shit.
I give him a guileless look and stuff more food into my face.
He snickers softly. “Indeed. As no further explanation is needed aboutthat, I will move swiftly forward. When he returned home, the four of us practically fell on him. Your scent was all over him, and it affected us on a deep, profound level. To be completely transparent, Faith, we were days away from deciding on our omega. We had three excellent candidates…”
The scoff that erupts from me stops him dead in his tracks. All of their gazes focus on me. I feel like crawling under my duvet and staying there until the end of all time.
Fixing his blue-eyed stare on mine, I’m unable to look away. My breathing goes a bit heavier; my heart beats a little bit faster. He is a good-looking man. Well, that’s an understatement. He is completely gorgeous. I was trying not to think about it, what with him being a criminal and all, but when he looks at me with those eyes and his scent fills my lungs, I forget the danger.
