There she goes again, saying that word in that sultry way of hers.

“I’m making sure you get home safe.”

“I didn’t see you offering anyone else a ride home.” She smirks.

That’s because I only have eyes for you.

“You were throwing back those blue drinks like there was no tomorrow.”

“Hey, I like multiple orgasms.”

My mouth hangs open just a little, until I realize she’s talking about the drink. “Those things can be lethal, you’ve only just become the legal drinking age so?—”

She yawns. “Can we get some food?”

Now my eyes almost bulge out of their sockets. “Did you not eat before drinking that much?”

She shrugs. “I had some sushi.”

“Sushi is not a meal.”

She snorts. “You sound just like my dad.”

Great. Way to deflate a man’s ego. “I do not see that as a compliment.”

“Ugh, he’s always telling me what to do, too.”

“Because he cares about you.”

“Because he thinks I can’t look after myself.”

“This is a big city,” I go on. “Bad shit happens every day, I see it. You just gotta be smart and not put yourself in unnecessary danger.”

“Is that why you drove me home, or did you not like that guy touching me?”

She’s hit the nail on the head. Ididn’tlike it, and my reaction is one that I’m still coming to terms with. The rage I felt washed over me like a fast-spreading wildfire. And none of it was good.

“You were jealous,” she continues when I say nothing. “I saw it in your eyes.”

When I finally grow some balls, I clear my throat. “You didn’t see shit, it was dark all the way across the dance floor.”

“Not that dark.”

“You saw me, then proceeded to flirt with him, knowing I was watching.” I know I should keep my big mouth shut. I should. But I don’t.

“Did you like watching?”

“You with another man?” I snort. “Not particularly.”

“And why is that?”

I could make up some bullshit about protecting and serving, but since she’s probably not going to remember this tomorrow anyway, I just tell the truth. “Because his hands don’t belong on your body.”

She’s bold when she turns to me, her sweet scent sending me to another realm. Siren doesn’t even come close. Stella is a whole constellation all on her own.

“Where do they belong?”

Cut up and delivered to his momma in a box?Theoretically, of course.
