“Next thing you’re gonna say is you’ll run and tell Daddy we’re being mean to you.” Brew flicks his bottom lip, making a baby noise. “Poor little spoiled brat who can’t keep her pretty little mouth closed.”
“Oh, I can keep it closed,” I sing. “I just don’t want to because I know it annoys you.”
Haze pulls into the parking space across the road from the entrance to the Vault and XXL. “Will the two of you shut the fuck up?” Haze complains. “Givin’ me a fuckin’ headache.”
“I’m hungry,” Brew replies, rustling around inside his cut pocket. He turns and shoves a bunch of cash at me. “Go grab us some burgers, fries, and two chocolate shakes.”
“Hey, what about me?” I grumble, shoving the cash into my jeans pocket. “A good prospect is one who has energy by way of a full stomach.”
“Eat your heart out,” Brew snipes. “I’m sure Quick-E Burgers serves lettuce leaves in a bun.”
I flip him the bird. “Asshole.”
“Make mine chilli fries!” Hazes calls after I climb out and slam the door.
“Eat a bag of dicks!” I call back over my shoulder, not that they’d hear me with the windows up, but whatever.
They’re both a pair of dicks, and annoying as fuck.
I think I’ll get Brew a strawberry shake, just to fuck with him, and I will definitely eat Haze’s fries as compensation for doing their impromptu food run. Ugh, they just think I’m here to run their dumb errands, and I guess I am, but they don’t have to flaunt it.
When I get to the burger joint a few doors down, I line up and then I hear; “Stella?”
I turn, a dude standing in front of me with a big smile on his face. “Bryce?”
Uh, oh. He’s a guy I dated once, and never saw again. It wasn’t a disaster as such, I just wasn’t feeling the vibe, and he was fine with it. We had a drink, and when it was clear he thought it was a hookup, I bailed.
“Hey, how are you doing?”
“I’m good.” He smiles. “How about you?” Suddenly he frowns, lowering his gaze to my cut that reads: Prospect, on the front.
“I’m good.” I thumb behind me. “Just picking up some food for the guys.”
“You’re prospecting for the MC?” I hadn’t made a big song and dance about the Rebels, but it’s a fairly small town, and he knew I was associated with them.
I shrug. “Yep.”
“How’s all of that going?”
“Fantastic, I love it.” It’s not a lie, even though I don’t like being their little errand girl. “Best thing I’ve ever done.”
He gives me a smirk that I don’t like, then again, Bryce has always had this air about him that gives me the impression he thinks he’s better than everyone else. “I’d love to stay and chat, but I’m headed out.”
“Okay.” I smile. “See you around.”Hopefully not.
“Later.” He takes off.
I frown. He walked in behind me, but didn’t get any food. Honestly, some guys in this town are totally cooked.
I walk up to the counter. “Do you have garden burgers?”
“Yes, we have plant-based options as well; they’re called the Big Vego.”
I smile. “Perfect. Could I grab three plant-based Big Vegos please, three chilli fries, two strawberry milkshakes and a root beer.”
That’ll show those two assholes.
