Dougie grins. “Someone has to.”

I drag Blake up by his hair, and he squeals like a girl. “This is police brutality!” he groans, still holding his sides.

“That’s funny, because nobody saw anything.” Dougie smiles as I dust my hands off, swiping his phone before he can stop me. I hand it to Dougie.

“He admitted to filming women without permission in the gym, and who knows where else,” I say. “Might wanna be checking his photos.”

“Hey, you can’t do that!” I’m pleased when I hear that Blake can hardly talk. Good. If I were a prick like him, he’d be suffering a lot worse than he is now.

“Oh, but we can,” Dougie says, then adds. “You’re under arrest. I guess we’re gonna do this the hard way since the easy way was just a taste of what’s to come for you, buddy.”

“You can’t treat me like this, I have rights!”

Dougie and I both look at each other and we burst out laughing.

“You’re lucky I don’t have Calli, my police dog, here,” I say, wiping my eyes. “She’d really have a field day with you.”

Dougie arrests him, and we knuckle punch as he leads Blake out to the waiting car.

I straighten up. Damn piece of shit put me off my workout, but at least he’ll be going to jail and won’t be getting any bail until the next court date. Plus, with whatever Dougie finds on his phone might just be enough to seal his fate for a decent amount of time. He doesn’t have rich parents who can bail him out, so that makes me happy.

I don’t know why there are so many men like him who think they can go around just doing whatever they want, whenever they want. Plying women with alcohol, or preying on drunk girls like Stella. I probably wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the type to drug them as well. Knowing my girl’s fate could’ve been sealed with this type of scumbag makes me see red, it also tells me that I’m feeling things I shouldn’t be feeling about this woman. I don’t know what to do about that. She’s under my skin, and I don’t know how long I can go on without touching her. Jesus. The way she put her hands on me right before she disappeared inside. Those text messages were enough to send me intooverdrive. She likes me. She likes me an awful lot, but she’s so young. Too young for me, and what does that make me if I’m fantasizing about her nonstop? I’m not some weird pervert like Blake, but knowing Stella has never been with another man… I just can’t stop thinking about it. I know chicks say stuff like that all the time, but Stella isn’t like that. She wouldn’t do that. I fully believe her because she doesn’t know how to lie. Not maliciously. And certainly not about something as important as that.

I know I should stay away, but when I’m on the job later that night on patrol, and get her text. I steer my car toward the bakery.

Stella

I have a cupcake with your name all over it

I smile as I read it, sipping my coffee in the patrol car. Just as I do, Calli looks at me judgingly.

“What?” I ask her. “Don’t give me that look.”

She paws at my arm.

“Nope,” I say. “We’re not going to see Stella, besides, you’re on the job for a couple more hours yet.”

I take a deep breath and reply.

Me

Is that bribery, or you just being nice

Stella

No bribery. I’m a good girl. And I’m always nice

My dick twitches at her words.I’m a good girl. And I’m always nice.

I close my eyes, trying to erase the idea of going to see her. No. I don’t need to be alone with her in her apartment, with fucking cupcakes. I don’t need to be anywhere near that intoxicating woman.

Me

Busy right now, I’ll text a little later, but it may be late. Rain check?

A message pings right back.
