Arching a brow, I placed the phone back into my pocket. “No.”

Her eyes widened, and a look of disbelief and annoyance crossed her features.

“Are you serious…”

“Deadly.”

Her lips mashed together, and as the voices grew closer, she panicked. Clearly, she panicked because what she did next was something I did not expect at all. Her free hand reached out and grabbed the center of my hoodie, and before I knew it, I was being dragged into her room. Once I was pulled in far enough, she swiftly stepped past me and slammed the door closed.

A chuckle formed at the base of my throat, and just when I thought I was safe, I wasn’t. A deafening silence crowded her small dorm room, and for a slight moment there, I was worried. Her back was to me, then, like a tornado, she whipped herself around and glared daggers in my direction.

“I can’t believe you made me do that!” She shouted as her voice cracked, almost like she wanted to cry.

Dammit, that was not my intention at fucking all, and now I felt like crap.

“Shit, I’m sorry, Blue. I didn’t mean to make you cry.” I frowned while pulling her phone out of my pocket. I tried handing it to her, and slowly, with blurry eyes, she grabbed it. “I just wanted to talk to you more.” I confessed, and finally, fucking finally, I saw a glimmer of hope. It wasn’t a smile but the beginning of something as her eyes softened. My heart soared at the reaction.

“Why?” She cowered back, confused, and peered at her phone momentarily.

Why. Good question. Because Blue, as much as you’d probably hate the idea now, I’m going to make you my girl.

“Why not?” I shrugged. Her apprehension wasn’t exactly reassuring, but I needed to lighten the mood somehow. “Not too keen on the idea of being friends, are you?”

Even the mention of the word friends caused her to flinch.

Ouch.

“Friends? I don’t have friends that are guys. Plus, I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

Huh, I wonder why?

“Well, that’s a relief.” I smiled, then took my eyes and swept them over her room, landing on what I assumed was her bed, which was covered in blue everything.

Cute.

“Not sure how I’d feel with a ton of guys hangin’ around you.”

Mouth gaped open, she hurriedly closed it and hugged the towel tighter around herself. “Well, I don’t really see how it’s any of your business if I’m hangin’ around guys or not.”

She’s right. It wasn’t my business. For now, anyway.

Shifting my legs, I slowly turned and noticed her desk was covered with miscellaneous items ranging from sticky notes to donut wrappers. Her cursive handwriting stuck out immensely, making me curious to see what she had written but invading her privacy was another no-no for a potential boyfriend. She was messy. An organized mess that made me eager to one day go through it all to see what I would find. I wanted to know everything about her down to the very last freckle on her body. Was she an artsy type of girl? A bookworm? It was like my soul demanded to know the littlest of details that wouldn’t matter to most. But to me, it would mean the absolute world.

“I don’t even know why I’m still entertaining you…” She muttered under her breath as she went toward her closet and began riffling through the hangers in haste. She was clearly flustered, and as much as I didn’t want her to feel that way, at least she wasn’t crying anymore. “What’s your motive anyway? Why do you want to be friends with me?” Her head rotated, and her eyes pinned me down.

The intensity of it had me stupefied, and for once, I let myself take in her beauty without fear of the consequences. Her hair was still damp, and a light redness coated the area under her eyes. She was unlike any girl I’ve ever met. I just knew I couldn’t let this one slip through my fingers. A feeling like this couldn’t be ignored, and no matter how hard I knew she’d fight this, I wouldn’t give up.

Not even a little.

“Not all guys have bad intentions, Blue.” I explained softly, and she scoffed in response. “Would it really be all that hard to believe that a guy just wanted to get to know you?” I was beginning to see that the nickname I had given her wasn’t just because she had an obsession with the color but because she carried a somber cloud over her head, changing the meaning of her nickname entirely. And for some reason I couldn’t explain, I wanted to brighten that color.

With her back now to me, she pulled hard on a hanger and tossed it roughly onto her bed. Honestly, I was surprised she was still letting me hide in her room, but I wasn’t going to risk her kicking me out by mentioning it.

“Yes, it would be hard to believe, actually. I know what guys are like and what they want, and it’s definitely not getting to know someone.”

She wasn’t wrong. That’s how a lot of guys worked. Hell, even I was known to be like that, but not anymore.

“Since you know us guys so well, please enlighten me and tell me what we want? As a matter of fact, tell me what I want?” I knew I was egging her on because as soon as I was done speaking, her eyes flew to mine again. Her lip trembled shyly and soon found itself trapped underneath her upper teeth.
