What the hell could he be saying to her?
Once he was finished, he pulled away from her ear and grinned proudly at his sudden success in calming her. He even peered at me playfully as if saying, “I’m the fucking man.”
“Okay, but I really need to leave, though.” She added in a more neutral tone that had Jesse’s brows scrunching.
“What? Why?”
Opening her right palm, she revealed a white phone that was sticker bombed with stars and what appeared to be words. Jesse glanced down at the phone and frowned. “I found this phone on the ground and realized I knew who dropped it.”
“Who?”
“My friend Wren. I was going to run to her room and drop it off.”
Shaking his head of wild black curls, he snatched the phone right from her hand and lifted it above his head. “Hell no. You might not come back, and I have plans for you.”
Even jumping, she wasn’t even close to reaching the device. Up and down, and eventually a smack to his gut, she let out a frustrated growl.
“Give it back, Jesse…”
Dropping his head, he caught her completely off guard when he placed a brief kiss on her forehead and tossed the phone in my direction. Suddenly aware of a phone flying in my direction, I quickly lifted my hands and caught it before it smacked me in the face.
“How about Decker takes it, and you stay here with me.”
What?
“Jesse...” I started to say but was cut off.
“No. No way. Hayes doesn’t even know where she lives.” She rambled, but Jesse being the annoying bastard he is, placed a lone finger to her lips to shush her.
“Easy. You tell him where she lives.”
Uhh, didn’t I have a say in this? The last thing I wanted to do was show up at a chick’s room and have to deal with her trying to chat me up.
“Jesse, no. I’m not having some random guy drop her phone off.” She argued, and honestly, I agreed with her.
“He’s not some random guy. Hayes is good company, and hell, she might be happy to open her door and see his pretty mug staring at her.” Jesse explained, but neither she nor I were taking the bait.
“Trust me. Wren would most likely cringe if she saw him at her door. No offense, Hayes.”
Woah. Wait a second… Cringe? What the fuck? Who the hell would cringe in my presence? Now, I was half tempted to take the damn phone myself.
“Cringe? Yeah, the fuck right.” Jesse chuckled. “The chicks love them some Decker, don’t they?”
Okay, now that was cringe.
“Ew, stop. Just give me the phone, Hayes, and I’ll take it to her.” She offered me her hand, but instead, I glanced at Jesse who, was silently telling me not to give her the phone. For some strange reason, I was interested about what this girl’s issue with me was? Was it personal? Was it just who I was or my image? Whatever it was, I couldn’t for the life of me let it go. Maybe it was nothing. Maybe, it would just be a quick pass of the phone, and nothing would come of it, but I wanted to chance it.
Red then began to glare at me with each second I wasn’t giving her the phone. Jesse grinned.
“Hayes, please give me the fucking phone.” She demanded.
“Hey now, he’s doing us a favor, babe.” He settled a palm over her shoulder and rested his chin onto the top of her head.
“It’s no big deal. I can do it. I was leaving anyway.” I offered, and with a deep sigh, she rolled her eyes and fell back into Jesse’s embrace.
“Fine, but I swear to god, if you try anything, I will personally…”
Jesse’s palm smacked over her mouth, muffling the rest of her words before she could finish her threat. Once she calmed down, she rambled off the chick’s building and room number. I said my goodbyes as Red thanked me, then I began to make the trek to her dorm. My heart electrified with each unknown step.
