“What do you mean?”

“Any other crazy conditions? Stipulations? Rules? I want it all out in the open now so we can get this over with.”

“I hadn’t planned that far ahead.”

She plants her hands on her hips. “You have to plan these dates then? Is that the deal?”

I shrug, wishing I hadn’t been worrying about this moment so much so that I would have thought further ahead and would have something more to tell her. “Do you want an itinerary?”

“A time limit. No dragging this out for a year.”

I shake my head, open the box of doughnuts, and grab a Boston cream before sitting down. I’m pretty sure this will be a long conversation. “Three months.”

“Three months?” Her voice ricochets off the barn walls, and Mack’s head whips in her direction.

“We’re not going to cram them all into a week.”

“I’ll make myself free every night this week to get it over with. And I should be able to plan a few dates. Actually, all of them.”

“No.” I bite my doughnut, chew, and swallow, taking my time just to get her to calm down a little. “I plan them.”

“I’m sorry.” She dramatically looks around the space, even stepping out of the barn for a moment, looking from field to field around us. “Yeah, I didn’t think so.”

“Think what?”

“I didn’t just step off a time machine into the nineteen forties. I’m not going to let you bully me into seven dates.”

“Then no annulment.”

She picks up the tennis ball and chucks it toward my house. Mack goes running, and she spins around.

“Don’t want our fur baby to hear us arguing?” I can’t help my grin.

Her eyes narrow. “I’ll give you three dates, and I plan all of them.”

“Five.”

“Three.”

“That’s one a month.”

She shrugs. “We can be done sooner if you’d like. Hell, I’ll free up my entire day today, and you can have me for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”

I’m sure when the words came out of her mouth, she wasn’t picturing me with my face between her thighs, but that’s all I can think of now.

I stand to ease some of the discomfort in my jeans. “Okay, let’s go to the house. Don’t want the fur baby to see us.” I walk out of the barn.

Mack comes back, tail wagging with the ball in his mouth. He drops it at her feet.

She picks it up and chucks it again. “What are you talking about?”

“You said I could have you.”

She growls, and her arms go straight, her hands in fists at her sides. “You’re impossible. Annul me, Brooks Watson!”

“After five dates.”

“Three.”
