I slam my office door behind me, grab the bottle of Beckett’s Gold from my desk, and pour a generous measure into a crystal tumbler. I knock it back and pour another. A sharp knock raps on the door, and Dominic’s head appears, followed by his big burly shoulders.

‘How did she do?’ His focus falls on the glass I’m clutching. My fingertips are white.

‘She was fucking phenomenal,’ I spit, shaking my head, draining my glass again.

My friend steps in, closing the door, but before he can shut it properly, Larissa darts through. ‘Oh no you don’t! I need details.’ She struts across the room and pours three more whiskeys.

I have no words.

‘Well?’ Larissa nudges me impatiently. ‘What happened? Don’t tell me you scared her off already?’

Nope. The only person running scared is me.

‘It was…’ I roll my lips. ‘She was…’

‘Spit it out.’ Larissa makes a circling motion with her hands.

‘It was fucking transcendent.’ I take a sip of my drink. Over the rim of my glass, I watch as Larissa and Dominic exchange a look that tells me what I already know—I’m fucked.

‘She’s a natural. So responsive. I swear she’s made to be a sub.’

‘That’s good.’ Larissa’s tone isn’t convincing any of us. ‘Where is she now?’

‘I left her in the hot tub off of Surrender Suite Two.’

‘You bailed on her?’ Larissa’s eyes narrow.

‘Not exactly. I filled it for her and buzzed two masseuses to go to her.’ I am a massive twat. She deserves better. But I had to get out of there. I’ve never felt so… connected to a sub before. And this connection isn’t one that I can ever let develop. It needs to be severed immediately, before the King of England finds out and decides my head needs to be severed too.

‘That’s more than you normally do.’ Dominic tilts his head to the side. The smirk on his face tells me he’s enjoying seeing this new side of me.

‘If it was that good, why did you bail on her?’ Larissa throws her crimson painted fingers in the air. ‘It’s her first night in here; she probably feels like shit.’

‘I bailed because this isn’t a fucking romance movie.’ I blow out a breath. I need to just spit it out. Dominic and Larissa are two of my oldest friends. They’ll get it. Even if I don’t get it myself. ‘I don’t do aftercare… but something about her made me want to. And it scared the shit out of me.’

Dominic’s booming laughter fills the air. ‘Finally.’ For someone who built an empire on instilling fear, he finds humour with almost unsettling ease. Shame it’s at my expense tonight.

I shoot him a glare.

‘I knew it was only a matter of time before you found asub you truly connected with. Next, you’ll be sending her flowers, taking her out to fancy restaurants.’

‘Don’t be so ridiculous.’ I snap, pacing the floor. ‘You know I don’t believe in that crap. And even if I did, there’s the tiny, insignificant matter of her being a princess. I’d never be what she needs in the real world. It can never be more than what it is.’

‘As long as you know that,’ Larissa says darkly. ‘I know you’ve never believed you could have a real relationship and maintain this life, but you know Dominic and I have always disagreed. In other circumstances, I’d tell you to face your fears and open your mind to the possibility this could be something more, but you can’t—not with her anyway.’ Sympathy washes over her face.

‘I know.’ My gaze falls to the floor.

‘Enjoy the arrangement for what it is, but whatever you do, don’t get attached.’ Larissa pushes her glasses higher on her nose, peering at me like I’ve grown two heads.

Dominic’s laughter echoes through the air as he stalks across the room to plonk his gloating ass into my chair. ‘Too late. He already did. You should have seen the look he gave me when my arm accidentally brushed hers. I thought he was going to slit my throat.’

Larissa clicks her tongue. ‘How will she get the full Reveal experience if you’re going to lock her up and keep her to yourself?’

‘I was not considering slitting anyone’s throat.’ I lie, pinching the bridge of my nose. ‘You know I’ve never been possessive with my subs before.’

‘So, you wouldn’t mind if we doubled up on her?’ An evil glint sparks in Dominic’s eyes.

It’s a reasonable suggestion. As I said, it’s not the first time we’ve shared, but this feels different. Rage flares in mychest at the mere prospect, despite third party involvement being included in the contract.
