“You can’t what? You can’t breathe? Good, maybe now you are able to feel the pain that I go through when you mention another man’s name. I already told you once, Sophia. The only man’s name that should be coming out of your mouth is mine. Not only that, but I’m also the only one you should be thinking about. Not fucking Blake Jacobi.”

His face is mere inches from mine but I can’t even concentrate on the closeness. All I can see is the black spots that are infiltrating my vision from the lack of oxygen.

Needing air, I dig my nails into his skin and try my hardest to pull him off me.

He gets the picture, because he loosens his grip just a bit, just enough to get some air in my lungs.

“Lie to me again, Sophia, and see what happens,” he threatens, his hand falling completely from my neck as he steps back.

I suck in as much air as I can, as I crumble to my knees all the while I try to keep my sobs from sounding out and alerting his parents to something being wrong.

“Compose yourself and come back downstairs. Change your shirt while you’re at it. I don’t need my parents asking questions as to where you were or why your neck is red,” he says, as he walks over to the bedroom door.

I watch him the whole time, my eyes may be filled with tears, but I watch him as he wraps the hand that was just around my neck, around the knob.

“Oh and start thinking about ending your friendship with Jacobi. I don’t know how much more of this shit I can take,” he says, right before he rips the door open and walks out like we just had a normal conversation and I’m not left on the floor gasping for air.

He broke his promise.

He said that he was never going to let it happen again, and yet, he did. And this time, he didn’t apologize for it. He just walked away like it was nothing.

Elijah hurt me again.

I need to walk away. I need to leave him because next time could be worse.

I need to break this off before there is a next time. I need a plan because no way is he going to let me go easily.

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

BLAKE

A week before present day

“You know,at first I was a little peeved that Liam was the only one of us that was going to go to the all-star game, but seeing all the things that he has to do while he’s there, it makes me glad that I wasn’t picked,” I say to guys as I scroll through the schedule that was sent to Liam for All-Star weekend.

Christian, Logan, and I are all sitting around Liam’s kitchen counter after eating a meal that he had promised us. Well, not really promised, more liked he was forced to cook for us.

A few weeks ago, he and Christian made a bet on a Gold’s game and loser was set to cook the winner a three-course meal. And because Logan and I are always down for a home cooked meal, especially one that isn’t coming from our own kitchens, we added ourselves to the wager.

I’m not usually one to place bets when it comes to my brother and his team, but I’m all for others doing it and it benefiting me.

I’m not going to lie, the chicken that he cooked was fucking amazing and it had three grown men fighting for more. I’m alittle bit disappointed that he didn’t poison us. Maybe he would have if Chloe and Eliana weren’t at the table.

“Sounds like a fucking nightmare,” Logan grumbles next to me as he takes the tablet from me and looks over the schedule himself. “Cameras everywhere, everything you do for people to see.”

“I’d be all for it, if the dodgeball game included players and coaches and not just mascots. There are a few people I wouldn’t mind nailing with a rubber ball,” Christian says, from where he sits at the counter.

“Bradford being at the top of that list,” I respond, which earns me a nod from my teammate.

“Oh, how I want to punch that fucker in the face every time he walks into to the locker room,” he says, his face scrunching up in disgust.

“We can’t afford you being suspended again.” Liam throws out, which causes Christian to shake his head.

Kalen Bradford is a player that the Knights acquired back in September. He’s an okay player, but the dude is a douchebag and a half that thinks the world revolves around him. He was causing trouble for the team before he was even signed, what with him blackmailing Eliana and all that. Things got heated with Christian and Bradford at the start of the season, which ended in a fight between the two of them and Logan. All three of them got suspended for two games and were fined. Because Eliana is not only Christian’s girlfriend but also Coach’s daughter, nobody really likes the guy. Even more so when he refuses to get traded to another team.

Now, we just tolerate him on the ice, but off it, we can give two shits about him.

“Or thrown in jail,” Eliana says, as she comes up behind her boyfriend and wraps her arms around him.
