“He’s there without me because I caught him in the bathroom with some blonde. According to him, he was in the bathroom fucking some girl because I was fucking someone behind his back.” Another tear escapes from the corner of my eye, but I catch it before it rolls down my cheek.

I shouldn’t be crying over Theo. I was going to end thing between us anyway, but it still stings that it had to go down this way. It stings that he wasn’t man enough to end things with me before he slid his dick into someone else.

“Who does he think you’re fucking behind his back?” Blake asks, the tick in his jaw becoming more prominent.

I bite down on my lower lips and look at my best friend.

“You,” I answer shyly.

Without a second thought, Blake is off the couch and heading back toward the door. “He’s dead. How can he think that? How can he hurt you over something stupid like that?”

A sharp pain shoots through my heart but I try to ignore it.I guess I’m the only one that thinks about our one night together in some capacity.

“I don’t know, but it doesn’t matter,” I say, following behind him.

“Yes, it does matter,” Blake says, stopping a few feet from the door and turning back to face me. “He hurt you, Sophia. He not only cheated on you but accused you of doing it too.”

“I know, but it’s done. Over. I’m no longer with him. There’s no need for you to go back to the bar and beat the crap out of him.”

“But he made you cry.” He points it out like it was news to me.

“So? I’ll get over it. Just please don’t go. I really need my best friend right now,” I answer, practically begging for him to listen.

Blake looks me over.

I don’t know what he sees, but he gives me a small smile and walks over to me, wrapping his long arms around my body and bringing me in for a hug.

This is what I’ve been needing. My best friend’s arms around me, making things better.

“I’m sorry,” he says against my hair.

I nod against his chest, holding his body tighter against mine. “Yeah, me too.”

We stand like that for a bit, eventually breaking apart.

“What’s your news?” I say, wiping away the remainder of the tears.

“I can tell you later,” he answers, sheepishly sliding his hands into the pockets of his jeans.

“Just tell me now. I need a distraction,” I say, letting out a small laugh.

Blake doesn’t laugh with me, though, he just stands there and gives me a nod, like he is contemplating how to say what is clearly on his mind.

“Just rip the band aid off, Jacobi.” I push, wanting to hear his news already.

“Fine,” he pauses for a second, just as a big, beautiful grin spreads along his face. “I signed with the Chicago Dark Knights about three hours ago.”

It takes me a second to digest the news.

“You did what?” I ask, feeling a smile spread across my face.

“I signed my first official NHL contract. I’m heading to Chicago.”

Not being able to help my excitement, I jump up and down until I eventually throw my body at him.

He’s been waiting for this moment since he got drafted. The fact that we were talking about this a few months ago and now it’s actually happening, is insane.

“That’s awesome! I’m so excited for you!” I say to him, placing a kiss on his cheek.
