“I get it. Damn. Did you seriously have to kick me?” He complains, leaning under the table to rub at his leg.

“Can I ask a question without getting kicked?” Sophia asks, raising her hand like we were still in school.

I give her a nod. She knows I would never kick her. Her best friend on the other hand is a different story. “Go for it.”

“What are you guys going to do when the season starts up in three weeks? Doesn’t the team have a no fraternization rule? Wouldn’t that extend to her too?”

More questions that I don’t know the answer to and most definitely something that me and Elaina have to talk about.

I know about the no fraternization rule the team has. Hell, I know it by heart because when Eliana started spending more time at my house, I pulled out my contract to read it through. All because I had a feeling that whatever we were doing might extend past the summer. I didn’t know for sure, but a part of me did hope. Back then I was okay with possibly saying goodbye to her once the end of august came rolling around.

Now that it’s here and we’re three weeks away from training camp, goodbye is the furthest thing on my mind.

Fuck.

My feelings for this woman are a lot bigger than I thought.

“Honestly, I have no idea. We haven’t talked about what will happen in three weeks.”

We haven’t even mentioned that training camp is going to be here before we know it. We’re just living life as if nothing between us is going to change in a few weeks’ time.

“Are you going to?” Liam asks, after quickly checking his phone. He’s probably checking to see if Chloe and Emma are okay.

I take a drink from my water before answering. “If you would have asked me yesterday, I would have said probably not. But things shifted this morning before I left, so now I think having that conversation is one that we have to have soon.”

“So, it’s serious with her?” Blake asks.

Is it? I didn’t think it was, hell I just talked about moving what’s going on between us this morning, but things could quickly shift.

Right now, Eliana and I are just enjoying our summer. Enjoying the companionship that the other offers and taking in the warm days with shared meals and laughs and finishing the days off in bed together. There is no seriousness, no hardship, just ease.

Never did I think that I would want more than that. I have never been much of a relationship type of guy, but with Eliana I want to be. I want to move past the summer days and ease and step into everyday life with her where things aren’t as easy and understanding. I want to possibly build a future with this woman or at the very least, see where things between us could go.

I answer him as truthfully as I can. “It could very much be heading in that direction.”

“Damn,” Blake says, leaning back in his chair as if we just had the deepest conversation in the world and it took a toll on him.

“Yup.” I say, falling silent.

We sit in the quiet for a few seconds before Sophia breaks it when she reaches over and places a hand on my arm.

“You two will figure it out,” she says, giving me a reassuring pat. “I don’t know her, but I know you, well sort of, this is the most I heard you talk that wasn’t throwing insults at Blake, but that’s beside the point. What I’m trying to say is that I know you enough to know that when you want something, you will do what you can to make it work. You two will figure out what to do when the season starts. No doubt you will.”

“I sure damn hope so.”

CHAPTERTHIRTEEN

Eliana

This day endedup being a lot longer than I thought it would be.

After Christian left at the butt crack of dawn to head to the airport, after having an orgasm-filled shower of course, I started my morning by editing a few pictures, jumping on a call with the Knights marketing team to start preparing for the upcoming season and then heading to the stadium for a Quakes game against Los Angeles.

It’s currently ten at night and my day still isn’t over.

The Quakes game went into overtime and eventually a penalty shot shootout. The game ended a whole hour after it was supposed to. As soon as it was done, I started editing pictures so that the social media team could start posting them.

Now two hours later, I’m still at the stadium trying to finish up edits so that I can go home and sleep.
