I’ve been thinking about nothing else but him, here with me, since he left, and now that I have him, I feel nervous.
“Miss me?” He asks.
“Don’t get cocky,” I say.
He grins. “So yes.”
I go to roll my eyes, but it’s cut short with his lips on mine. It only lasts a few seconds, but it’s enough time for my whole body to react and tingle, for my senses to be filled with the smell of him, for me to feel completely desperate for him all over again.
He pulls away, squeezing my waist. “I was planning on waiting until the date, but I had to.”
His smile must be contagious, as my lips can’t help tilting up.
“I did miss you,” I admit shyly.
“I know.” He smirks.
I push at his chest playfully, eliciting a laugh from him.
“I just have a work thing I need to do really quick, and then we can go?” He says.
“Okay.” I nod.
“You can finish your dance.”
I shake my head. “No, it’s fine.”
“No, come on.” He protests. “I interrupted you, and you were having fun.” He says. “You dance, I’ll work.”
“Really, it’s-” I stop myself when he sticks me with that look he always gives me when I’m people-pleasing. “Fine. Yes. I would like to finish the dance.” I admit. “But you can’t watch.”
“Why?” He smiles.
“Again,” I say. “Embarrassing.”
“It’s really not.” He says.
“I don’t want you to see how bad I am,” I whine.
He laughs. “I really don’t care how bad you are.” He says. “You’re having fun, who cares?”
I bite my lower lip nervously, trying to decide if I can handle him watching me, even if for only a second here and there.
“You want me to do something embarrassing first? Make you feel less embarrassed?” He offers.
“Kinda,” I admit.
“Okay.” He draws out, thinking of an idea. “I could work in my underwear?”
I shake my head. “That will purely distract me.”
“Okay.” He chuckles. “How about I tell you an embarrassing secret you can hold over me forever?”
“Listening…” I nod with a smile.
“Let’s see.” He swipes his hand through his hair, looking at the sky deep in thought. “I once puked on a girl right as she was about to kiss me.”
My mouth falls open comically wide, and I fail miserably at hiding my amusement. “You didn’t?”
