“Dylan, where are you?”
There’s some rustling against the phone. “We’re driving back to Brooklyn right now.” She says.
“Soon both of my babies will be home!” Frida squeals. “I’m so lonely.”
I scoff. “Yeah right.”
“I know for a fact you’ve been on four dates this week,” Dylan adds on.
“Pfft.” I can picture her waving us off. “That doesn’t count. That’s just boys, I need my girls!”
Dylan lets out a little squeal. “I can’t wait to squeeze your little faces!” She beams.
We all squeal in unison.
“You three could stop traffic,” Elijah mumbles from the background.
“Tell Elijah to just keep driving,” Frida shouts into the phone.
“This doesn’t concern him.” I pile on.
“I will turn this car around.” I can hear the smile in Elijah’s voice.
“Love you.” Frida starts cooing.
“Love you, Elijah,” I add on.
“Speaking of loving boys.” Frida starts. “How’s the fiancé, Lou Lou?” She practically winks into the phone.
I roll my eyes by default before filling them in on the latest developments, including the revelation from last night about how disgusting Otto really is and how the night ended — excluding the most panty-melting details, those are just for me.
Speaking about him gives me the overwhelming need to check my phone to see if he’s texted yet. Still no luck.
“Does that mean you’re back in your rage fuck era?” Frida asks.
“Honestly.” I basically sigh. “I’d take any type right now.”
“But only with him?” Dylan adds.
“If you could see him, you’d understand,” I say.
“And because you’re basically in love with the guy.” Frida laughs.
I sit up like it’ll give my words more emphasis. “I am not.”
“She is,” Elijah says matter of fact in the background.
“I don’t like your fiancé anymore, Dylan.” I deadpan.
“So if lover boy is away Lou, what are you doing?” Frida asks.
“Living my best life,” I say defensively. “Definitely not sitting around waiting for him to text me again.”
“Are your fingers defunct?” Frida scoffs. “Text him.”
I shake my head. “Nope. Can’t.” I say. “I came off so desperate last night, I need to play it cool.”
“When has playing it cool ever actually done anything?” Dylan says.
