"It's a vacation! Of course I'm happy."
"You're not just happy, you're giddy. Spill."
I place the book I've been ignoring on the hammock and make an effort to get up. This thing is for two, so it swallows me up. I lift my hands in the 'up' signal that little children do when they want their parents to pick them up.
Jack leans down and picks me up from the deathtrap I've just been in. Safely in his arms, I take in his scent. He smells like the ocean and a tropical breeze. How he managed that I don't know. I place a kiss on his shoulder and my lips taste salty like him.
"I could just lick you all up, Savage."
"Oh yeah?"
"Mhmm."
He grabs my legs and carries me bride-style. I giggle like a schoolgirl and kick my feet as if he's a brute that's out to ravish me. Secretly, I hope he does.
When we're inside our cabana, he tosses me unceremoniously onto the bed.
"Hey!"
"I need some answers, and I need them now."
His deep voice still does things to my body, no matter how long we've known one another. I stick out my tongue at him, which gets me a deep, sexy laugh.
"You're such a brat. But you're my brat, and I love you."
He crawls onto the bed towards me, and my heart starts to beat faster and faster. I love him. I want him. We're going to make a family together. When he's leaning on top of me, he gives me this wicked smile, and that's when I realize what he's going to do.
"I want to know all your secrets!"
He shouts out as he starts to tickle me. I'm extremely ticklish so I immediately start to scream and laugh all at the same time. He knows all my secret spots too and right now is motivated to go for them.
"Stop! Stop! I yield."
"I don't think so." That deep tone says.
He starts rotating through all my sensitive spots, and I am almost afraid I'm going to pee myself from it.
"I'm pregnant. I'm pregnant. You're going to be a dad."
His features change immediately from wicked to concerned. He reaches for my face and puts a hand on my cheek.
"Are you okay?"
"I'd be better if I knew what you were feeling about the baby."
"You're the best gift I've been given. I'm not sure I deserve this one."
"Too bad, it's already on the way. No returns."
He lowers his head and our lips meet gently. Once, twice. His eyes are shiny, as if he's holding back tears. I reach up and brush his hair. This usually calms him down.
"I love you, Jack. You're going to be an amazing dad."
"I love you, too, Emily."
We spend the rest of our vacation daydreaming about what parenting will be like. Whatever happens, I know Jack will always be there for me. Forever.
