Chapter 1

Emily

The blender vibrates under my hands as I make a pitcher of margaritas for me and my friends. We've all recently graduated from college and are now on our way to join the world of business. I'm not going that far, though. I'm going back to the university where I got my degree.

"All right, ladies, here we go."

I start serving them in the margarita glasses I already prepared with salt on the rim. The slices of lime are cut and waiting to be the garnish on our drinks. Once we've all got drinks, I lift my glass up as if to make a toast.

"Meeting all of you at orientation was the best thing that happened to me when I started college. That we've beeninseparable until now is a blessing. Now we go our separate ways to careers that will help us shine, and I urge all of us to make sure we always keep in touch."

I start getting teary-eyed, but I don't hide my tears from the best friends anyone could ask for. They've been with me through the good and the bad and are still here, celebrating with me this new adventure that we're about to embark on.

"And we will shine. We've worked hard and strived to be the best in all our undertakings, and that's not about to change now. So let's lift our glasses and toast to the future."

"To the future." We all shout in unison.

We sit back down, and the room fills with giggles and chatter, and I couldn't be happier. It's Friday night, and on Monday, I start my role as Student Counselor for the university. At first, I'll be working as an assistant until I learn the ropes, and then I can stand on my own two feet.

My best friend pushes her way between me and another one of our friends and sits right beside me.

"So, bestie. Are you going to start dating now that we're full-fledged adults with real jobs?"

"Oh, god. Not this again. Meg, I can't deal with a relationship right now."

"When was the last time you dated? High school?"

"Don't remind me. It was a horrible experience."

"Not everyone is as insensitive as that jerk you dated. You just need to give it a chance."

I visibly grimace at the mention of the jerkwad that I dated in high school. A two-pump chump who didn't live up to all the hype he had at school. How he managed to keep his credibility intact after the way he treated women was beyond me.

"I've got my books now and a BOB. I don't need no stinking boyfriend."

"Life is too short, Emily."

Life is incredibly short and unpredictable, and I do want to find love. It just feels so complicated, and I don't even know where to start. So I drink my delicious margarita and get back to gossiping with my friends until most of us are wasted.

They don't know it, but I like to keep it light, so I only have two drinks the whole night. The ladies camp out in the living room, and some share the bed in the guest room. I grab my phone and shove it in the back pocket of my jeans, and then busy myself cleaning up so that I don't have to spend half my Saturday doing it.

I have this great feeling about how my career will go, and I feel like having fun these last two days before I return to work. I start daydreaming about what it will be like working at the university with all the young people needing my guidance.

Choosing to be a Student Counselor was a no brainer after having been helped in high school by one. It opened up a world of possibilities for me and I wanted to do that but at a higher level in college. I know that all I need is an opportunity to show what I can do.

After I finish washing the margarita glasses, I set them up to dry on a towel and go to my room. There I plop down on my favorite recliner and sigh in relief. I hear a weird sound coming from my ass and I cringe at the thought of having butt-dialed someone.

I hurry to pull my phone out of my back pocket, and when I put the phone to my ear, I hear the sexiest and most delicious voice. I'm a little tipsy and ready for some fun, so I smile mischievously and decide to pull a prank on whoever is on the other end of the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hello, sexy. Where have you been all my life?"

"Who is this?" Sexy voice demands.

"Does it really matter? Your voice is the hottest thing I've ever heard. Say something dirty to me."

"I don't know who you are or what you look like, but my cock just sprang up for attention."
