We were in some deep, deep shit.

“Wyatt,” Rafe said, his voice low and dark.

“I know,” I replied.

Even without knowing anything about the relationship between Aiden and Skye, I knew down to my bones that Aiden would never lie to her, no matter how hard or painful the truth.

And if Aiden wasn’t lying…that meant Lucille had just tried to kill her son.

And now he wasn’t dead.

I ran my hands along face, dragging my cheeks down as I tried not to groan.

“What do you know about this?” Skye demanded. She had shiftedso that she was behind Aiden with his head resting on her lap. Her hold on Aiden was protective, as if Rafe and I were the reason he got fucked up, though her glare seemed to remain mostly on me.

“I know Lucille Brandt is a cunt,” Rafe replied smoothly.

Willow snorted. “That’s putting it lightly.”

“Lightly? What’s worse than a cunt?” Skye asked, turning toward to her friend.

“Um…I don’t know. It was supposed to be funny.” Willow’s cheeks turned pink.

“It wasn’t,” Aiden wheezed.

The girls all laughed and Aiden let out a pained chuckle. Even Rafe’s lips twitched like he wanted to grin. Skye wiped at some tears on her cheek before running a hand over Aiden’s forehead and neck as if checking him for a fever.

“How’d you find him, Wyatt?” Willow asked.

“I didn’t,” I said at the same time Skye said, “He didn’t.”

“He found him,” Skye replied, nodding toward Rafe. “You only give a shit about Aiden when he’s in your sessions. My shadow follows us practically twenty-four-seven, and since he wasn’t with me before he appeared and spirited me away from the library…”

The look on Rafe’s face was something I’d never seen before, but my stomach dropped further.

There was no going back. Rafe was in love with her. He’d be off to murder anyone in the next instant if Skye ordered it.

Including me.

Aiden managed to sit up, still breathing heavily, but the glare he pinned on me could have set me on fire.

“Wyatt, get…the fuck out…” Aiden panted, then raised a shaky finger to point at me. “I’m not…I told you…no more counseling.”

“That’s not why I’m here,” I sighed, and then Skye shattered what was left of my heart.

“Then why are you here? I rejected you, Wyatt.”

Willow and Mia gasped. Aiden’s eyes burst open for just a moment before he slammed them back shut and tilted his head back with a groan. Rafe went still as a statue beside me, his dark eyes flicking over to me in utter shock.

“Skye…you…Wyatt…oh my God.” Willow looked back and forth between us before bursting into tears.

“Don’t be shocked, babe. He rejected her, first.” Mia soothed.

My first instinct was to snap at her, but she wasn’t wrong. Unfortunately for me, Mia was rarely wrong when it came to how she felt about me. I angrily ran my hands over my face, hiding the fact that tears were stinging the backs of my eyes.

If I cried in front of anyone here, especiallymy sister, I’d die on the spot.

It was time for me to go.
