My heart pounded just at the mention of Skye. How’d she get wrapped up on Landon Iykos’ bad side? This wasn’t good at all. That little shit had an attitude problem the size of the moon.
I heard Mia murmuring in the background, and I ground my teeth in irritation. She was probably telling my sister not to give me too many details about what happened, even though I needed to fucking know everything if I was supposed to help them. Which, I was assuming, was the reason Willow had even called. My sister and I didn’t do phone calls tocatch up.
“Willow?” I prompted. “What happened to Skye and Aiden? Is someone hurt?”
“Skye…threatened Lana. It wasintense, Wy.”
I breathed out slowly. My phone buzzed again, and I glanced at my notification screen. I couldn’t help but huff a laugh.
“Lana is requesting an emergency session with me.” I informed my sister.
“WYATT!” Willow shrieked. “Don’t take it!”
She had to be joking. “I have to? It’s my job? Fuck, I shouldn’t have even told you that.” I scrubbed my free hand down my stubble. I’d wanted to shave after my shower, but that wasn’t happening anymore. I was way too shaky now.
“Wyatt?” Mia’s smooth voice greeted me next.
“Mia,” I clipped.
It was no secret the two of us didn’t get along. It sucked even if I understood it. Mia’s role was to watch out for Willow, and many times I was the source of Willow’s grief. Mia and I were civil now, but there’d been times in the past where the two of us had nearly come to blows. Mia had threatened to freeze my dick more than once in the past, and I’d never doubted her ability. The little goth weirdo was vicious when she needed to be.
“Wyatt listen to me. Lana threatened Aiden Brandt while he was defending Skye Aria. Landon grabbed her, and Aiden reacted. Lana mentioned she’d be saying something to Aiden’s mother about it and that’s why Skye freaked out.”
“I see,” I sighed, pulling on the soft t-shirt I slept in. This was even worse than I thought. If Aiden’s mother got involved… “And Skye’s aware of Mrs. Brandt’s…personality?”
“No,” Mia answered slowly. “No, I don’t think she is. Skye’s reaction was very…interesting, to say the least, but it was justified. Aiden looked like he was about to pass out.”
“I’ll handle it,” I mumbled. “I’ll accept Lana’s request for the morning and see what I can do. Was Landon sober?”
“Of course not.” Willow snapped.
“And you? Mia? Skye?” I didn’t even bother asking about Aiden. That kid needed rehab. It’d be more suspicious if he’d gone to a party andhadn’tgotten drunk or high out of his mind.
“We only had a drink or two,” Mia answered defensively.
I sighed. “Relax, Mia. If you were all drinking that helps our case greatly.” If people were drinking, I could easily spin things around toconfuse Lana. Or at the very least, no one would take a group of drunk kids seriously enough to contact Aiden’s mother.
I hoped.
Mia mumbled a quiet “oh” before Willow’s voice came back.
“Zap her memories, Wyatt. I don’t want my friends in trouble.” Willow ordered.
I sighed dramatically, so she could hear me. “Willow, you know I can’t do that. Stop saying that shit out loud, too. I’ll speak with her and make sure she understands that there was a misunderstanding.”
“But there wasn’t–”
Mia cut off Willow. “Thank you, Wyatt.”
“You’re welco–” The call cut off before I’d finished speaking.
I couldn’t sleep.
Morning was coming much faster than I expected, and I found myself getting up for my regular workout having only slept for an hour.
I was too anxious.
I’d been carefully keeping Skye locked away in my mind. She was deep in a place that didn’t bother me day to day, only appearing in my thoughts right before I fell asleep or while I was dreaming.
