If my mother heard about what had happened just now…
I could hear the sounds of a scuffle around me, followed by a scream. I looked up, my jaw dropping as my vision cleared to reveal the scene in front of me.
Skye was on top of Lana.
I mean, Lana was literallysprawled out on the groundwhile Skye straddled her, gripping Lana’s jaw in her hand.
Lana screamed like she was being murdered, throwing her hands atSkye, who easily snatched them with one hand and pinned them to the ground.
“Skye!” Willow screeched. Mia only stared in shock, her eyes wide.
I was frozen. What the fuck was even happening right now?
Lana’s next scream cut off abruptly, and then she started frantically thrashing around in silence while Skye held her tight, not allowing her to move.
It took me a moment to realize what’d happened, but at Lana’s blotchy face, the dread in my gut grew. Skye had taken Lana’s oxygen.
Holy fucking hell.
“You listen to me, you fucking weirdo,” Skye’s voice was low and menacing, giving me a surprising shiver. “If anything happens to Aiden because of you, you’re going to find out that I’m not acrazy bitch. I’m much, muchworse. So go ahead, go tattle on him. But you better sleep with one eye open, because there’s no one around to disciplineme.”
Lana’s face was purple.
“Skye,” Willow sobbed.
Skye ignored her, keeping her attention on Lana. Skye’s sexy dress had ridden up slightly, exposing more of the creamy skin on her thighs, and holy fuck I really needed to fucking chill. I wiped some sweat from my brow.
“Nod your head so I know you understand me,” Skye demanded.
Lana nodded frantically. Tears streamed down her face and she clutched desperately at her neck, still shaking her head as her skin continued to turn new shades of blue.
Skye climbed off of Lana and let her writhe for a second longer before Lana gasped loudly. She rolled over onto her hands and knees, sucking in ragged breaths while coughing and sobbing.
Skye stood, pulling her dress back down her thighs, then smoothed her hands down her taut stomach to her hips. And Jesus Christ. Was Ihard?
I need so much therapy.
“Get your brother out of here. If he ever touches me again, I’ll cut his fucking hand off. I don’t need an affinity for that.” Skye said, then reached toward me.
I stared at her outstretched hand, completely stunned for only amoment before I shakily placed mine in hers. This meant something. Her hand reaching out for mine, even after what I’d said and done. Even after she’d run from me, she didn’t hesitate to defend me. Now, she didn’t hesitate to help me stand. Even as I leaned into her too hard, dizzy from my high, she didn’t waiver. She weaved one of her arms around me, holding me around my back so I didn’t fall again.
This meant something. I was just too fucked up to really grasp it.
Chapter 21
Aiden
We leftLana in the scorched grass on the quad, knelt next to a passed out Landon. I didn’t look back as Skye pulled me along, her weight somehow easily supporting mine. Her free hand patted my chest every time I shuddered.
We made our way up the stairs inside her dorm building. Willow and Mia followed behind, subdued, only murmuring to each other every once in a while. Finally up the stairs, Skye used her free hand to unlock the door and let us inside.
I blinked at Willow as she met my eye, her mouth twisting into a strange expression as her blue eyes flicked down to my glowing arm, still around Skye.
I understood her confusion. Either I wasn’t burning Skye, or the girl was fucking heatproof. None of it made sense.
The four of us eventually filtered into the small dorm, and I found myself in the corner by the door, not sure where I fit into this dynamic. I’d just insulted the fuck out of Skye, then defended her, then she defended me, and now I was in her room. Even without drugs, I’d have been confused as hell.
But holy shit.I’m in her room.
