I shivered.
Not good.
I wasn’t stupid. Aiden got around, and I was the new girl. Of course he’d be after me. Plenty of guys were, I just ignored most of them. But for some reason…I couldn’t ignore Aiden. Didn’twantto ignore Aiden?
“Alright everyone, let’s work on the blocks I taught you last class. If any of y’all maim each other, I swear…” Coach grumbled before shaking his head. “We are not hurting each other today, only using our affinities so we can learn to block them.”
Well, this was pointless as fuck. I could block anything.
I looked back at Aiden, who was still watching me like he wanted to eat me. Something told me if I invited him to meet me in the locker room, he’d follow without a second thought.
I blinked that thought away, then cleared my throat. “You wanna go first?”
“You got it. Hit me.” He grinned.
I pursed my lips. This was fine. Totally fine. It wasn’t a real fight at all, so my affinity had no reason to act out.
I sent a small puff of air toward Aiden, who merely stepped to the left to avoid it. “That’s not going to help either of us learn, Skyes.”
I bristled at his use of my brother’s nickname for me. Of course he didn’t know my brother called me that, so I shouldn’t really be annoyed, but here I was.Annoyed.
I sniffed, then flicked my wrist, sending a burst of air toward him this time. Aiden’s eyes widened as he threw his arm out a millisecond too late. The air hit him harder than intended, flinging him back into the cinderblock wall of the gym.
“Oh, shit, Aiden. I’m sorry,” I moved to get closer to him, but he held up a hand to stop me.
“I’m fine,” he wheezed as he stood slowly. He shook out his arms, which…seemed to be glowing? And then he shot me another classic dimpled grin.
“You produce and harness fire, right?” I asked.
Aiden’s smiled melted off his face and I wanted to punch myself. He looked unsure now, his brows furrowed slightly as he nodded.
“You should have taken the air I sent and used it to super-charge your fire. Then you could have sent a crazy fireball right back at me.”
Aiden watched me for a moment, then relaxed. “That’s a good idea,” he murmured.
“We’re learning, right?”
“You know someone with fire?” Aiden asked, sending a small stream toward me.
I easily dodged it. “Yeah.” I replied, then flashed him a smile. “You.”
Aiden’s returning smile was blinding.
And panty-melting.
Someone help me.
“You know, you’re kind of perfect for me.” Aiden said.
I almost stumbled. “What?”
“We’d be able to fight together really well. You could supercharge my fire with your air, or douse me with water if I start to Exhaust. We’re like a perfect match.”
I cleared my throat, blinking several times as I tried to decide what the fuck to do with that statement while Aiden prepared to send more fire at me.
“What’s your other affinity?” I asked.
Aiden’s arms were stretched out, mid-firestream, but it suddenly fizzled out and he dropped his arms.
