My nausea dissipated in record time. I quickly took in the scene, then dropped to my knees beside Aiden, who was choking on his own vomit. He was face down on the carpet, where he twitched, trying to cough.
Overdose. He was overdosing. He’d taken something–
I looked around quickly, but there weren’t any pill containers nearby. No little baggies. No needles. Not even a beer bottle. What the fuck did he take?He began to choke again, and I turned him onto his side.
“Fix him.” Rafe’s voice shook. “Heal him.”
“Rafe, I…” I blew out a breath before scrambling for my phone. “I can’t stop an overdose, I can only heal him afterward.”
“Fuck,” Rafe practically whimpered. He strode back and forth, pacing nervously as I used my phone flashlight to check Aiden’s pupils.
“I might be able to–”
“Wait, new plan. No time,” Rafe said, grabbing my arm and taking hold of Aiden. “Skye’s dorm. Skye can fix him.”
“Are you fucking craz–”
My words were abruptly cut off as Rafe dragged Aiden and I through the shadows to Skye’s dorm. Nausea churned my stomach as my body was pulled and pushed in every direction.
Rafe was agitated, frantic. He wasn’t just traveling with us, he waspulling. Yanking. Jerking us back and forth in an effort to carry the both of us and get to the right place in time. I was reminded again of how strong my closest friend was, even if he was still unconnected. I could only imagine how strong he’d be once Skye accepted him. Maybe shadow-walking wouldn’t make me so nauseous anymore once he and Skye–
I nearly gagged when the jerking sensation stopped suddenly. My knees screamed in protest as they hit the ground, but I immediately moved to pull Aiden back onto his side. I opened up his mouth, weighing the options of forcing him to throw up again, but I still had no idea what he’d taken.
There were two seconds of silence as Rafe blipped out of existence behind me, and then all hell broke loose.
“WYATT?” Willow screeched, jumping onto the bed to make room for us. Mia was right next to her, the color draining from her face as she took in the scene.
“Do you have anything I can give him?” My voice was hoarse. Why hadn’t Rafe just taken us to the hospital? Why had he brought us to Skye’s dorm? She was going to fucki–
“AIDEN?!”
The horrific shriek that came out of Skye was so heart-wrenching, I doubled over. Rafe was back, and he’d brought Skye with him.
Then, with no one’s hands on me, I was being shoved aside. The door lock loudlysnickedclosed all on its own, and furniture began shifting in every direction. Willow and Mia grabbed onto the footboard of the bed they were on while the bed scraped all the way into the corner. Neither girl looked surprised to see Skye’s affinity at work, and that only reignited my sadness. Of course Skye trusted her two best friends more than me.
Rafe appeared next to me, placing a hand on my shoulder. I gulped at the terror in his eyes. Rafe had never looked this scared, not evenafter his accident. He pulled me back, making more space for Skye to do…I don’t fucking know what.
“Aiden, Aiden, Aiden,” Skye repeated his name over and over. She ran her trembling hands over his neck, his chest, then settled on a rubber-band tightened over his arm. My heart leapt. In my frantic search, I’d completely missed it. The rubber-band popped open on its own, flying to the corner of the room and out of the way. “What happened?”
“He’s been drugged,” Rafe rasped.
Skye’s eyes didn’t move from Aiden’s body. She completely ignored both me and Rafe, running her hands over Aiden’s chest like she was looking for an invisible injury.
“He usually just takes pills,” Mia offered. “If we take him to the hos–” Rafe shot her a glare, silencing her. As much as I disagreed with bringing him here first, there was no denying that if Aiden went to the hospital for this, it wouldn’t matter if he survived or not. His motherwouldkill him if she was embarrassed that way.
“Take it out, Skye.” Willow said from the bed.
“What?” I hissed.
Rafe squeezed my shoulder. “Shut the hell up.”
“Aiden,” Skye said his name again, then closed her eyes. “I-I don’t know if I can.”
“You can.” Willow said with conviction.
I looked at my sister, shocked. She was watching Skye intently, her hands balled into fists. Why had it taken until this moment for me to see? My sister had complete faith in Skye. Willow wasn’t scared or unsure at all, only pure faith and determination shown on her face.
“I-I’ve never…fuck,” Skye breathed, her hands moving over his arm, then his chest and down his torso.
