Landon’s eyes widened. “Wow. Congratulations. I didn’t know you had a Chain, Skye.”
“It’s a new development,” I muttered. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Landon replied, then looked at Aiden. “Happy for you, man.”
Aiden relaxed slightly. “I didn’t know you two were hanging out now.”
“Just recently,” Landon said, taking another bite of his food. “Look, Aiden. I owe you an apology. I’ve been acting like a huge dick. You didn’t deserve it. I’m trying to make up for it.”
“By hanging out with my Key?” Aiden asked, his voice quiet in an almost lethal way that really should not have turned me on further. I laid my hand on his thigh, but he didn’t look away from Landon.
“I apologized to Skye,” Landon said smoothly.
Aiden looked at me. I nodded. “He squashed Anton during class yesterday.”
Aiden’s eyebrows rose slowly but then he looked back at Landon with a new expression.
“Anyway. I’m sorry, Lana told me she’s also apologized. I’ll prove to the both of you that I’m not that guy anymore. Starting with Anton, I’ll…squashhim again if you want.”
I snorted and Aiden’s lips twitched. “Alright, Landon. Truce.”
Landon smiled. “So we were just talking about the final essay forHistory of Affinities. Have you picked a topic? I was offering to send some sources over since I have an in with Lana.”
“Haven’t picked one,” Aiden said, glancing over my tray of food before swiping some fruit. “I barely looked at the packet.”
“That’s most people,” Landon said. “Lana was telling me all about it. Said Randall would probably fold and change a grade if anyone bothered to complain.”
“We’ll probably work on it together, soon.” I said, trying to push the awkward conversation. “We have to practice a few moves for Health class, still.”
“Oh, don’t worry about that.” Landon waved his hand dismissively. “Your grades are fine in that class. Coach feels bad that I was being a douche and I put most of the grades in for him anyway, so you’re both good.”
Aiden looked at me with wide eyes and I snorted. Aiden flashed me a smug grin, then plucked the pizza crust from my plate and practically stuffed the whole thing in his mouth.
A clatteringsound drew my attention right as I finished typing my most recent assignment. My shoulders rose nearly to my ears as I turned slowly, bracing myself.
Aiden shot me a sheepish smile, holding one of Mia’s plants that he’d clearly knocked onto the ground. Soil covered Willow’s desk and one of Aiden’s arms.
“Having fun?” I asked.
“Yeah. Super weird, this plant just, like, fell.” Aiden said, furrowing his brow. “Should we tell Mia?”
“Should we tell Mia that she has haunted plants?” I asked. “No.”
Aiden laughed before replacing the plant on the window sill and carefully gathered up the soil as best he could. I turned back to my assignment, finishing my final paragraph while Aiden moved around behind me. At some point, Willow’s handheld vacuum roared to life as Aiden finished cleaning up his mess.
“So uh…you and Landon?” Aiden asked.
I snorted, not looking away from my laptop screen. “You mean us and Landon.”
Aiden chuckled. “I mean…what’s going on there? Do I already have to share you?”
I choked on a swallow and whipped around to look at him. He was holding Mia’s plant, the leaves looking sad and rumpled, while he stared at me intently.
“Share me withLandon?” I clarified.
Aiden shrugged.
“No, Aiden. Not with Landon.” Then I muttered under my breath as I spun back around, “Maybe not anyone.”
