“What happened, angel?” she asked softly. “Why are you pulling away?”
I shook my head even as my heart lurched from the new nickname, and I tried harder to pull back, but Skye tightened her grip even further, almost to the point of pain.Just how I liked.I almost groaned.
“Answer me,” she ordered softly.
I blew out a breath, looking up to the ceiling to avoid her eyes as I spoke.
“I don’t know, I just…you want to talk? That’s…” I exhaled sharply, unable to find the words I needed.
“Oh, Aiden…” Skye pulled me by my shoulders, and I couldn’t help but move back to her. She hugged me tight, and I kept my arms at my sides, but rested my chin on her shoulder, not even caring that I was hunched over her small frame.
“Is it about the party still? I thought we’d…I thought everything was–”
“Aiden.No. Everything is fine, better than fine. Look at me.”
I moved back just enough to see her face, and the beaming smile she sent my way had my knees buckling slightly. She ran her hands through my hair and I resisted the urge to whimper.
“I had my Link-testing redone,” she said softly.
I blinked.
“Aiden,” she whispered as she rolled her eyes. “You’re one of my Links.”
It took a moment, the whole world seeming to still as my brainslowly caught up with her words before I jolted like I’d been struck by lightning.
“Holy shit!” I cried, taking Skye by the hips and throwing her into the air before she landed on the bed with anoof. Skye laughed as I draped myself over her, kissing her all over her face and neck.
My heart was threatening to pound right out of my chest. Part of me felt like I couldn’t breathe. The happiness inside me was filling me up so completely it wouldn’t allow oxygen into my lungs.
No way. Nofuckingway.
I had a Key.
I had a Key and it wasSkye.
I fucking knew it.
This couldn’t have been more perfect.
“I guess you’re happy,” she said, breathless from laughter. Her cheeks were flushed, her hair was messy. She wasstunning.
“Sofucking happy, are you kidding?” I replied, my cheeks already hurting from how widely I was smiling. I kissed her again, smashing our lips together and pushing my tongue into her mouth almost harshly. I kissed along the corner of her mouth, to her chin, to her neck, and back up to her lips again, shivering from her soft moans.
“I mean, you’re mine either way, but this is great. Less arguing later.” I said against her cheek.
“What the hell does that mean?” she laughed. “Why would we argue?”
“Because you’re stubborn,” I murmured against her jaw. “Now you know we’re made for each other. You’ll never try to leave me.” I smacked a wet kiss on her lips.
Skye laughed, then tried to speak between giggling kisses, “Okay, that’s not all.” I pulled back just enough for her to speak. Her lips brushed against mine as she continued. “I want us to connect. Like, officially.” she whispered.
I blinked.
Skye’s expression went from hopeful to unsure, her brow furrowing slightly as she took my silence as hesitation. She went to move away from me and I quickly moved my hands to cup her beautiful face, holding her still while I spoke to her.
“Skye.” I said, firm but gentle. “Listen to me. I…I love you. Link or not, Chain or not…I’m yours, baby. From the moment you looked at me that first day in class, I was gone. I’m not going anywhere. This was inevitable.” Tears welled up in her eyes, and I wiped them away as they spilled over onto her cheeks. “Say something,” I whispered, and Skye let out a watery laugh.
“Holy shit, Aiden. I was so scared when I realized what was happening. I didn’t want us getting involved if we weren’t supposed to be. I couldn’t live with myself if I took you from someone.”
