“Pinned to the wall, hmm?” Mia asked, failing to hide a sly grin.
“This is as good an opening as ever,” I said with a sigh. But Mia and Willow were only half listening to me, instead they wereexchanging each other flirty grins over their pasta. I banged my fist on the table. “Listen to me! I redid my Link-testing!”
Willow dropped her fork and Mia’s mouth dropped open.
“I thought you’d never done Link-testing?” Mia asked suspiciously.
“I lied,” I deadpanned. “I hate needles. There was an issue with the first round of testing I did so I wasn’t going to do it again.”
Mia laughed in disbelief.
“No way,” Willow gasped. “Why? Aiden? Oh…my…GOD.IS–”
Mia slapped her hand over Willow’s mouth, silencing her before she could shriek something to the entire dining hall.
“Thank you,” I whisper-yelled.
“Skye!” Willow hissed. “Is…Aiden…”
I nodded tightly, trying and failing to hide my smile. Willow jumped up and down in her seat, covering her mouth so she didn’t scream out happily.
“Skye,” Mia whispered. She reached across the table, taking my hand and squeezing. “I’m so,sohappy for you.”
“Thanks,” I replied, fighting back tears.
I hadn’t really given myself time to think about what exactly this meant.
I knew Aiden was special. I’d felt it from the first time we’d spoken, and especially the first time we’d been together sexually when he easily went to his knees for me in the woods. The fact that we were in a Chain together really had me ready to launch into the atmosphere, I was so fucking happy.
I somehow…maybe…was falling in love with him.
And that was…terrifying.
“Are you going to connect?” Willow whispered.
I nodded nervously. “I plan to do that tonight.”
Willow slapped her hand over her mouth again, and tears began streaming down her face.
“Willow!” I hissed, but then laughed.
Willow cackled. “I’m sorry! I’m so, so,SOhappy for you, Skye! You deserve this!”
“I don’t know about that–” I started but was quickly cut off by Mia.
“Skye,” she said a little harshly. “You deserve whatever you want.”
I bit my lip, fighting back another wave of tears.
Mia was right, of course. Roles reversed, I would have said the same thing to her or Willow. Deep down, I did believe I deserved something good for myself, regardless of what had happened in the past.
Giving it a second thought, though…Aiden probably felt the same as I did. He hadn’t told me much about his life still –not that I’d been very good at asking– and what he did choose to share was quite…sad. His childhood, at the very least, hadn’t been a happy one.
“And Aiden is hot,” Willow whisper-yelled.
I blushed. Aidenwasso hot.
“I’m so happy for you, Skye.” Willow said, taking Mia’s hand. “My whole life changed when I found Mia. I’m so happy you’re about to have the same thing. It’s truly amazing.”
