Rafael Sombra. His Royal Highness, thePrinceRafael Sombra. Holy shit. He washot.

I ran my finger down my phone screen over his handsome face, following the line of his square jaw, covered in shadow.Everythingabout him was dark. He had dark brown, almost black hair and dark eyes. Even his olive skin looked like he would tan just from strolling down the street. He had one full sleeve of tattoos, all gray and black, trailing down onto the top of his hand and fingers, even curling up onto his neck.

He’d attended the academy years ago and hadn’t been in any clubs, didn’t have any special awards or accolades. In fact, anything staff members had to say about him seemed…like they were glad he was gone. All except for Coach, of course. Rafael was talented in combat.

My brow furrowed slightly as I read on. The prince had also only attended the academy for two years before being pulled for conscription. Unlike Wyatt, though, he didn’t return after serving his time.

Of course you’d have the fucking prince of darkness in your Chain,Zephyr’s voice was sarcastic and I giggled nervously.

If he’s made for me, he can’t be that bad.I projected, more to comfort myself than Zephyr.

Then, something flickered nearby, just the gentlest caress of a presence along my mind, over as quickly as it came.

Whoa…was that the Nudger?Zephyr didn’t sound alarmed, just confused.

Fuck, you felt that?I glanced around, seeing no one nearby, not even in the shadow of the trees. It was a cloudy day, so everything seemed darker.

Yeah, that was fucking weird. Didn’t seem…threatening, though. Just–

Curious.I finished his thought, knowing it would match my own. I sighed, glancing at the clocktower once more.I have class soon.

No problem, Skyes. I’m gonna look these fuckers up, make sure none of them are…I don’t know. Sex offenders or whatever.

I let out a loud snort before clapping a hand over my mouth and giggling.

Good idea. I might need you to fly out here to handle one of them for me.

Zephyr growled playfully.I’m a big brother, it’s in my blood.

Gross. Love you.

Love you too. Be safe, Skyes.

Chapter 31

Rafe

My obsession was speaking telepathicallywith someone. I’d seen her like this before, though I hadn’t been sure what I was witnessing at the time, but the longer I spent following her, the more familiar I was becoming with her habits.

I could feel her mind radiating toward me, but it wasn’t looking for me. She was projecting her thoughts into someone else, and I was too curious to keep my distance.

Just how powerful was she? Only a fully manifested telepath could lock someone out while conversing with someone else, and she was quite young to have mastered anything close to that.

I’d managed to stay away from her since she’d threatened to melt my brain –a threat I wasn’t entirely sure was empty– and now I settled for watching her at a much further distance. I hadn’t tried to poke at her mind anymore, either.

She sat alone on a bench in the courtyard, under the shadow of some trees, and I quickly snuck closer. She was scrolling through her phone, reading something, then snorting and giggling every few seconds. At one point, she laughed out loud, startling an irritating ice affinate who was walking by too closely.

Skye was so distracted, in fact, that I was able to sneak up right behind her and read her phone over her shoulder.

And then I froze.

She was looking overLink results.

Fucking Wyatt. Of course he’d underestimated her again. I needed to stop trusting the bastard.

I moved around to her side, still hidden by the shadows from the trees. It was a cloudy day, so it made my shadow-walking much easier to hide.

She suddenly laughed, sharp and loud, and slapped a hand over her mouth before continuing to giggle quietly.
