“Hey,” I replied sweetly, walking to him.
He held his arms open for me and wrapped me in them. He kissed the top of my head. “He’s going to be fine. And so will you. And so will I.”
Looking up into those inquisitive russet-colored eyes peering from his mocha skin, I asked, “But will we? The three of us? Will we be okay together?”
“It’s my mission to make sure of that,” he promised and kissed me sweetly on the forehead.
Chosen called around six and said he would be at the shop late. I didn’t have as many clients, so I got home a few minutes after six, and Fyve pulled up not long after that. He brought dinner, and we ate before the two of us lay together in my bed.
I dragged my hand down the center of his chest, tracing the dragonhead tattoo on his left pectoral. “What are you thinking about?” I asked.
“Do you recall that fight that Cayden and I had back in the day, not long after prom?”
“Yeah, you were fighting over Jacqueline Sinclair.”
He shook his head. “No. We were fighting over you.”
“Me?”
“Yeah. I was pissed about what he did to you. I confronted him about that shit when no one was around. He called me a punk, accused me of liking you, then said some mean things about you. I bust him in his shit, and we started fighting.”
“Everyone said it was about your girlfriend.”
“Jacqueline said it was about Jacqueline. She saw us fighting, broke it up, and when Caden told her that I was crushing on you and defending your reputation, she was pissed. She started the rumor we were fighting over her, and I let it go. I felt stupid because I shouldn’t have been fighting over any girl. Coach reamed our asses the next day.”
“I’m sorry for misjudging you all these years.”
“No worries, li’l mama. I got the girl now.”
I giggled. “Yes, you do, baby.”
“Seriously, I don’t want to lose you. I don’t know if you’ll ever get tired of this and decide you only want one of us. He proposed and you accepted.”
“You weren’t here, Fyve. I might never have become involved with Chosen if you were here. I just knew that I didn’t want to do a long-distance relationship anymore. I knew you and Chosen knew each other, but I never knew you were this close.”
“We didn’t become cool until after we graduated. I got my first tat from him during my freshman year of college. We got high late one night in his shop, and our friendship formed from there. Don’t get me wrong, we were cool before then, but not like now.”
“Then, baby, let’s build on that. The three of us can be a family and inspire and empower each other. There’s no limits on how far we can go. There’s so much love in our hearts, and I had so much acceptance of your fantasy, it’s just in a different order. Instead of FFM it’s MFM,” I whispered, turning on my side to face him full-on.
“You’re talking about a relationship, baby, not just a threesome.”
“I’m talking about you sharing me in a relationship with him. You’re not in a relationship with him.”
“Damn straight I’m not.”
“Fyve, either of you could walk away at any moment. I’m the lucky one because you haven’t.”
“That’s because you give me what I need, baby.”
“And I always will. You’re a strong man who is an excellent provider, not just for yourself, but all the men working for you with families. You’re my rock, Fyve, and I love spending time with you. You make me so happy. You always put me first, baby. Thank you for being you.”
He kissed me. “Girl, I love you the only way I know how. Hard. You know my mama ran out no sooner than she pushed my ass out the womb. All I had was my daddy and the random bitches he brought around. He raised a young jit the street way, so I don’t know much about being soft with a woman. I give you what I have,” he explained, thumping his fist against his chest.
“Baby, that’s more than enough. Our love is strong and enduring. Chosen may have proposed, and I accepted, but our connection is special too. You make me feel safe and loved.”
“And him?”
“My heart is big enough for the both of you, but I plan to spend my life making you each feel and know how special you are to me. Just because we’re in this special relationship doesn’t mean that I won’t have time alone with each of you to nurture your spirit and soul the way you do mine.”
