“I don’t want to. The way I felt in the beginning isn’t the way that I feel now.”

“You started relationships with them under pretenses.”

“Erica,” I whined.

“I’m just saying, sis. If you’re not careful, it can come back to bite you.”

“I know.” I groaned.

“Are you sure it’s not the money they spend that’s got you going out of your mind?” Verity asked.

My girls laughed as I rolled my eyes and kicked my feet up. “I mean, it doesn’t hurt that they love spending money on me and buying me the latest and greatest. But, no, that’s not why I’m sticking with them. I genuinely fell in love with them.”

“You’re going to have to make up your mind, boo. You can’t string both of those men along. And if you said that Fyve is willing to kill a nigga over you, how do you think he’s going to behave when he finds out about Chosen?” Tessa asked.

“Don’t get me wrong, Chosen can hold his own. But Fyve won’t do anything to anyone if I tell him not to. He listens to me, and I’m not about to have those men fighting over me. That shit’s not cute,” I answered.

“Honey, you’re telling me,” Tessa replied.

“Listen, I don’t see what’s wrong with having a side nigga, even if you do marry Chosen’s ass,” Verity interjected.

“That bitch is trying to get someone killed,” Santerica mumbled under her breath.

“Not really. I’m just saying. Why is it okay for men to have a sidepiece but not okay for a woman? Why is she considered a ho?”

“It’s not about being a ho, Verity. It’s about me taking the vow of marriage seriously. If I’m marrying, then I’m doing that to the exclusion of all else. I won’t take his hand if I can’t be faithful to him. I would be no better than Aaron. I’d rather just keep them both as my men and marry no one if it comes down to it.”

“Well, if you’re taking the vow of marriage seriously, you should start with the truth. Tell those men who you are and what they did to you. Tell them why you got involved with them in the first place, and tell them about each other,” Santerica warned.

“Listen, I know you and Tess mean well, but I’ve got this.”

“I told you what to do. Get that ring and the bag and keep your side nigga. That’s what I would do if those were my options,” Verity stated.

“And V, that’s why you’re going to be alone. You can’t play men like that,” I remarked.

“That’s what you’re doing, sis,” Verity countered.

“No, ma’am. We’ve never discussed being exclusive. I don’t think that Chosen is seeing anyone else, but I wouldn’t be upset if he were, because we never discussed exclusivity. As far as Fyve is concerned, he’s probably screwing every woman in the city of Atlanta and beyond. That’s why he has to wear condoms with me. I don’t trust him.”

“You don’t wear them with Chosen?” Santerica asked.

“Yes. But I would be more willing to remove them for his sake than for Fyve’s. Only after he showed me the test results though.”

“Sis, it sounds like you’ve got some decisions to make. Whatever you decide, please be careful. I only have one sister, and I love you to pieces.”

Santerica kissed my cheek.

“I love you too, boo. But I’ll let you ladies know what’s going on after tomorrow night.”

“You can’t call us before the night is out?” Tessa asked.

“If that man is asking me to marry him, I won’t be thinking about you bitches. I’ll be on my knees sucking that dick like it’s made of caramel.”

We all laughed, and they high-fived me. But inside, my stomach was churning. I wasn’t looking forward to the conversation that I would have with Fyve.

Let’s Get Married

“It’s so beautiful,Chosen. How long have you been planning this date? I know that reservations here aren’t easy to come by.”
