“Call me crazy, but call me crazy for you.”
“Oh my goodness. Okay, yes, I’ll be your queen. Now would you please get up?” she pleaded, tugging my hands.
I loved the smile that lit up her face. I stood and pulled her into my arms. Brushing my lips against hers and resting my forehead on hers, I stared into her eyes. “This is the best date ever. Thank you, Mya.”
“Thank you for giving me something to look forward to.”
You Own Me
“It smells delicious. What did you cook?” Mya asked as I led her through my living room and out to my backyard.
“I grilled two ribeye steaks and asparagus, cut up some sweet potato fries, and sautéed mushrooms and onions.”
“That sounds so delicious. I love a man who can cook.”
“Is that your way of confessing your love to me?” I asked, leading her further into my backyard.
“Chosen, you’re so sweet.” Her eyes were lit with excitement as she turned her gaze to me and then back to the blanket that was spread out on the lawn. There were candles perched on tree stumps around the blanket and fairy lights strung from the treesoverhead. Smooth jazz played softly in the background from my miniature speaker.
“You make me this way, beautiful,” I replied, helping her to sit on the blanket.
I had met Mya when she walked into my tattoo shop to get dog paws on her inner thigh. It was such an intimate piece that she was selective about who she chose to do it with. She told me that she’d heard a lot of great things about my artwork and how I handled delicate areas of the body.
I opened the basket that I had previously carried out into the backyard and unpacked the food.
“Why do you do all the sweet things that you do for me, Chosen?”
My hand froze as I was cutting her steak, and I looked up at her. “Excuse me?”
“Why? What’s your motivation? If I weren’t as pretty as I am, would you do the same? If I were overweight, would you do the same? If I had bad breath, would you do all the things you do for me?”
I couldn’t lie. I did a lot for the girl. I spent a grip of money on her every other week since we started dating two months earlier. But I could afford to. I owned two tattoo shops, Majestic Ink and Majestic Ink II, along with some rental properties. I enjoyed buying her the latest brand-name bags, couture clothing, red-bottomed heels, and designer fragrances. I didn’t mind giving her a couple of stacks just because.
“We may not have been together long, but you got my heart, girl. Mya, you’re my future. I believe in investing in my future. It isn’t all about the sex. You have a beautiful heart, and you care about me. When I’m not feeling my best, you always have the right word to say that lifts my spirits. You believe in me, Mya. So yeah, I’m gon’ rock with you and give you everything no matter if ya breath stank or ya feet stank. Now, we might have to dosomething ’bout that shit, ’cause I’m not gonna just let you think that shit’s cool.”
“Chosen!” She shoved my arm and laughed.
“What?”
“That’s not okay. You can’t be saying stuff like that.”
“Why not? It’s the truth.”
She sighed heavily. “Okay.”
“Where’s all this coming from, baby?” I asked as I dragged the backs of my fingers down her cheek.
When Mya looked up at me, her eyes sparkled with unshed tears. I swiped my finger underneath the rim of her eyes and wiped away the tears.
“No place. I just sometimes get overwhelmed at how thoughtful and loving you are.”
“It’s all about you, baby.”
She smiled at me. “Let me find out you’ve been poisoning my food with some do-right to get me to fall for you,” she declared and forked a piece of the steak that I finished cutting. I watched as she chewed slowly and then moaned. Jabbing her fork repeatedly toward her steak, she smiled as she chewed and released a chuckle. “You’ve got me. You own me, Chosen.”
“Ain’t no do-right in that food. But I got some act right that I can put on you,” I replied with a smirk. Her eyes dropped to my crotch, and she smiled.
“Is that for dessert, or are you teasing me?”
