Why were his hands shaking as he tried to pull on the gloves?

Because he was scared?

Nay, angry.

Aye, angry.

His life wasn’t simple. Wasn’t easy, wasn’tsafe. But he’d been surviving, until a certain dark-eyed vixen with self-esteem issues barged into his life and got down on her knees to suck his cock.

Now he couldn’t stop thinking of her, his ballocks ached fiercely, he took time out of his day to spy on her, andhe still had to concentrate on this mess.

Fooooook me.

“Focus,” he muttered, turning to the dog. “Tramp, stay.”

The mutt jumped up onto his feet, barked twice, and slammed into his knees. Because of course he did; barking was Tramp’s third-favorite pastime, behind licking his own arse and scarfing down food.

“Nay,stay,” Fawkes repeated, going down to his haunches. “Christ, animal, can ye no’ learn?Stay here. I’ll be back in a bit.”

Tramp barked again, happily.Loudly.Incessantly.

“I cannae stay and play with ye. Cease yer chatter, ye’ll keep the neighbors awake!”

The dog, apparently, didn’t understand simple Scots.

How in the hell could Tramp be so calm and quiet one minute, then make enough noise to raise the demons of hell?

“Alright, alright,” he capitulated with a sigh, scooping up the animal. “Let’s go see Henry upstairs. Perhaps he can come sit with ye.” On more than one occasion, he’d hired the lad—Mister Reynald’s grandson—to run errands for him. “He’s got young knees, he willnae mind tussling with ye.”

Tramp barked twice, and then, delirious with excitement, pissed all over himself.

Sighing, Fawkes pinched the bridge of his nose. Aye, this evening was going to hell.

Chapter 9

Ellie hesitated, hand raised to knock on the door to Fawkes’s flat.

You made it this far. Matthews will just grumble at you if you return home so quickly after dragging him out in this cold.

Well, if she didn’t feel guilty before, she certainly did now.

Coming here tonight hadn’t been a whim. She’d been thinking of Fawkes almost non-stop since that first night she’d come here, to him. The second visit, when he’d shown her such pleasure, she’d been amazed…but spending the afternoon with him this week—laughing with him about his new dog, seeing him tease Merida about the man-flu—had done something to her heart.

It wasn’t just that she wanted to see him again. Sheneededto.

Needed it so much that she’d been willing to sneak out of the house, with the help of her coachman, to visit Fawkes again.

She was practically desperate for his touch.

So Ellie knocked, still trying to decide what to say.

“I happened to be in the neighborhood and was wondering if you would be willing to lick my cunny again?”

“Oh, fancy meeting like this again. May I come in and put your penis in my mouth again? I really quite enjoyed it, which is surprising, all things considered.”

“Hello, Fawkes. I think I might be falling in love with you.”

No.
