“Jenny, I can’t move if you don’t let go,” he said gently.

I released him, then turned over so we were face to face. “Tiger, I feel like I don’t have the right to rest. Does that make any sense to you?”

“Yes.” He looked at me in the dark, and the moonslight pouring through the window cast silver light across his face. His eyes glowed like molten honey. “It feels like we have no right to rest or sleep or eat or do anything else for ourselves until he’s safe. Right?”

I swallowed hard and nodded.

“The thing about that is, if we don’t take care of our bodies, then what will he come home to? And how will we have the mental and physical strength to help him once we know where he is?”

“Your Ladrian logic does not resemble my Earth logic,” I grumbled.

He laughed. “How so?”

“Earth logic dictates that if the people you love suffer, then you should suffer, too.”

“That is silly.” He kissed my forehead. “But I completely understand.”

I exhaled a breath and rolled to my back, staring up at the ceiling. “I know you get it, Tiger. I just don’t know how to sleep right now. Not when we should be doing something, looking for him, anything.”

He sighed. “Of the five people who want to be looking for Mal, you are the last one who should be out there. You are the most famous human in all of Orhon. Unless we mog you, you can’t—”

“Mog?” I turned my head to look at him.

“Remember when you and Elizabeth came on board our ship, and we looked human?”

“Oh right, when you came to Earth to get us to bring us to Sarah,” I mused. “Wait…Ican mog?” The ideawasintriguing.

“You should be able to. You’re half-Ladrian, so it should be relatively easy for a mogging belt to make you look like one of us, but that’s beside the point.” He brushed his thumb across my cheek. “You need sleep. We both do. We won’t be any good to Mal if we’re dead from exhaustion.”

He had a point, but I couldn’t seem to calm my racing mind. “I know. It’s just…Illiapol was like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. And now, I feel part of me is still there. Like it’s clinging to me, haunting me. My head feels like it’s caught in a blizzard. And with Mal gone…” My voice broke. “I don’t think I can handle anything else going wrong.”

“It’s going to be okay.” Tiger’s voice was soft and soothing.

“How can you say that? How can you just lay there, as if nothing is wrong?” I asked him, my voice edged with anger. “Are you pretending none of this is happening? Why aren’t you as terrified as I am?”

“I’ve seen a lot of things go wrong in my life,” he said, his eyes kind. “Being terrified has never fixed any of them.”

“That’s not fair,” I huffed. “Being terrified is human. It’s how we connect during a crises. And you’re just—”

He kissed me. His mouth captured mine mid-sentence, his tongue sweeping in, shutting down my thoughts with the sheer force of him.

I gasped and pulled back. “What are you doing?”

“Distracting you,” he said, and kissed me again. He slid over me, maneuvering on top of me. His lips trailed along my jawline to my ear. “Jenny, I promise you we are going to figure this out, and in the meantime, you are here with me. Not on the mountain. Not being hunted. Safe. With me. So be here with me. Please.”

I reached up, cradled his face in both hands, and kissed him, realizing how badly I needed the comfort of him, the way he felt on top of me, the way he held me. I needed the weight of him, the way his body pinned me to the bed, reminding me of where I was and who I was with. I wasn’t lost in some nightmare hunting ground. I wasn’t hallucinating his warmth.

I had Tiger and he was real.

I traced my fingers along his strong cheekbones and whispered, “I’m here with you, Tiger.”

He kissed me again, and I melted into it, into him. His cock hardened against my thigh, thick and hot and ready. The feel of it made my whole body tighten with anticipation, and I wrapped my legs around his waist, rolling my hips up to meet him. Our kisses deepened, became hungry. Devouring. Tiger’s kisses were their own language…slow and sweet, then heady and lustful.

He rolled onto his back and took me with him. I straddled his hips and sat up, his golden gaze drinking in my naked body while I stared down at him. The affection in his eyes, the reverence, completely unraveled me.

He reached for my face and I leaned into his touch, kissing his palm. Then I bent down to kiss him again, grinding my pussy against his cock. Wet heat smeared across his length, and when I shifted my hips, he surged upward, just barely entering me.

He exhaled a sharp breath and looked into my eyes. “Are you sure?”
