“I’m not about to make it that easy for you,” he said, before he opened Credo’s door. “You’re a smart man. I’m sure you’ll figure it out.”
“This is Credo Bateen’s bedroom,” I said, not liking the detour he’d taken. “What are you doing?”
He flashed me a devilish grin. “One more thing before we can leave.”
He walked in, so I followed him, tension knotting tight in my gut. He stood at Credo’s bedside, studying the elder man’s still form.
“What are you doing in here?” I demanded.
He glanced back at me with mock offense. “You seriously don’t remember the first man you ever loved?”
Before I could process what he’d said, he pulled out his thigh daggers, flipped them in his hands, stabbed one into Credo’s chest and threw the other at something near the window. I couldn’t see what it hit, but the bone dagger stopped in the middle of the air, before it fell to the floor with a clatter.
Oh, fuck.There was only one man I knew who could strike with such cold precision. One whose violence looked like choreography and whose cruelty came wrapped in charm.
