And I still don’t know what he meant when he told Sara that he would see her on Friday. Are they dating?

Tired of feeling like the odd one out with Rayne and Hazy, I blurt, “More like twelve inches.”

“Holy shit,” Hazy says. “Twelve inches?”

“What’s twelve inches?” Tanner sets our drinks on the table, glancing between each of us.

“The table runners,” Tessa says quickly. "You know, for the reception tables.”

We’re supposed to be discussing Hazy and Turner’s wedding in a few months, so Tessa’s lie is believable, but Tanner still smirks.

“Sure, the table runners. And what color are the table runners?”

“Blue!”

“Pink!”

“Purple!”

Hazy, Rayne, and I each say a different color.

“Right.” Tanner kisses Rayne on the lips. “You’re a terrible liar. Besides, I’ve already talked to Travis and Tucker about the whole tick situation.”

“You talked to Tucker about what happened with the tick?” I ask, shocked that Tucker would have talked to his brothers about it.

“Yeah, don’t worry. He explained that it was nothing to worry about. He said he thinks of you like a little sister, so it was a little awkward, but it’s not like he’s interested in you that way.”

“H-he said all that?” I fight back tears. “But I thought..." I don’t finish my sentence, too embarrassed by all the memories of silently staring at him at the bar on my nights off. “But what about that time at your house?” I blink at Tanner, still fighting tears. That was the night I thought I had made real progress with Tucker, but after I dropped him off at his house, he hopped out of Tanner’s truck, and with a quick good night, rushed inside.

“I asked him about that, and he said he did it as a favor to me and Rayne, to bring us together.”

“I’m sorry, Sky, I thought he really liked you. He told me…”

I waved my hand to cut Rayne off. “It’s fine. My recruiter has been pestering me to take a higher-paying job out of state anyway. I think it’s time I move on. Besides, it’s at the samehospital where Grace is working.” I don’t add that Tucker is dating Sara.

“You’re leaving?” Tucker says as he approaches our table, with Travis following behind him.

“Where’s Grace?” Travis asks.

Damn these brothers and their ninja-like skills at sneaking up on people. But I should really expect it. Whenever we’re at the bar, Turner and Tanner find any reason to stop by and see Hazy and Rayne, making sure to touch or kiss them whenever they get the chance.

Lucky girls.

“It’s nothing," I say, forcing back tears. “I’ve decided it’s time to move on to a new assignment, one closer to Grace.”

Tucker opens his mouth as if he's about to say something, then shuts it, and my heart breaks. Of course, he doesn’t care that I’m leaving. If anything, he’s probably glad to be rid of the creepy girl who spends all night at the bar watching him.

“That will be nice for you to be around Grace again. I know how close the two of you are.” Travis says, surprising me with his acceptance of Grace no longer being in his life. “Come on, Tucker, we’d better give Turner a break so he can come over and check on Hazy.”

Travis and Tucker turn to leave, but Tucker’s gaze meets mine one last time. “I’m happy for you, Sky.” He gives me a half smile before rushing back to the bar.

“I think I’m going to go home.” I can’t stop the tears from falling as I push away from the table, grab my purse, and stand up. “I’ll see you all this weekend, right?”

Tessa has worked so hard to build her event planning business that whenever she’s short on servers, Hazy, Rayne, and I help out. This weekend is no different.

There’s a big wedding reception scheduled for Saturday night. Turner, Tanner, Travis, and Tucker take turns bartending—I hope Tucker isn’t bartending this weekend.

“Are you sure you’ll be up for it?” Tessa stands and wraps her arm around my shoulder. “I know my brothers can be complete asses.”
