JAY

With the changes in the beginning, I think episode four needs a major rewrite.

She answered almost right away.

SAHAR

As long as you don’t touch the line that made me cry…

A line made her cry? As in, real tears, or was she being hyperbolic? He was about to ask when three dots appeared again.

SAHAR

I mean, it’s your show. You could do whatever you want, of course, but please don’t touch the flashback.

JAY

What line made you cry? And the flashback is safe. You have my word.

SAHAR

“In my perfect world, you and I would be together.”

Something in Jay unlocked.

That’d been the first line he’d written for the series.

It had come to him while he was on the train, snow falling out the window, blankets of glittering white covering the naked trees—the city sparkling in the dead of winter. He wasn’t sure what it meant or how he’d use it, but he knew he needed it.

JAY

Did you actually cry? Real tears?

SAHAR

Yes. And don’t ask me why. I almost messaged you about it, but it was 2 in the morning.

Did she miss her ex-boyfriend? Was that why it made her cry?But she’d told him he wasn’t a good person. Regardless, he had no right to ask. Maybe it would be a good thing if she wanted her ex back. Or maybe she had someone else she was interested in.

Every probability Jay calculated ended with Sahar being untouchable. Someone else's.

JAY

I’m honored it made you feel so much.

Maybe one day, he’d tell her how important that line was to him—how this moment would stay with him, even if nothing came from this story again. And oddly, that would be okay, too.

Maybe Sahar was the only audience he needed.

Her investment was becoming crucial to him.

SAHAR

Henry and Katherine are everything. I keep thinking about them, and you’re entirely to blame.

JAY

Well, you’re the reason they’re getting a happy ending, so I’m glad that’s the case.
