It’d been almost two weeks since the Tony Awards, and she was now at Ethan’s, cat-sitting for the weekend while he and Willa were on holiday.
She hadn’t had time to read beyond episode three of Jay’s screenplay, but now that her schedule was a bit more clear, she could finally resume.
And currently, the fourth episode ofEvery Speck of Dustwas destroying her. Sahar admired a compelling flashback in an already thrilling episode that filled the present-day gaps and took viewers on an emotionally gripping journey. It always made her feel closer to the characters. When well-placed and thoughtfully executed, it usually ended up becoming one of her favorite episodes of the season.
INT. THE OFFICE - LATE AT NIGHT
Henry’s eyes are fixed on Katherine. A pen in between her teeth, humming something to herself. They’re the only ones left. Slowly, her gaze rises up to meet his.
KATHERINE
Whatcha thinking about over there, Palmer?
Pause
HENRY
I…
Silence.
He can’t hold it anymore.
HENRY
Earlier today, you asked me what my perfect world would look like.
She’s quiet. Katherine swallows and sets the pen down.
HENRY
In my perfect world, you and I would be together.
A long beat of silence passes.
KATHERINE
Henry…
HENRY
(Smiles, just barely)
You’re good, Stephens. No need to respond. You and I both know this line of work is too dangerous for any of that.
KATHERINE
Yeah.
Fuck.Tears welled in Sahar’s eyes, cascading down onto her face. Why was she crying? Why was her heart thumping so rapidly?
In my perfect world, you and I would be together.
It was two in the bloody morning. That was it. That was why she’d been crying—delusion and exhaustion.
Sahar read the words over and over again. The tears kept coming.
What part of it was hitting her so hard? Was it Henry’s longing? Was it the knowledge of Katherine’s fate prior to Jay saying he’d alter the ending? Was it her own profound desire to experience what Henry and Katherine feel for one another?
