“I’m not following,” Amina added.

Sahar took a sip of her coffee. “Do I say it to Jay or not?”

Willa flashed her a toothy smile.

Amina cocked an eyebrow. “So, that’s who you’re texting.”

Sahar rolled her eyes. “I’m not texting him. He just said good luck, and I’m debating if I should say Happy Father’s Day. There’s nothing complicated here.”

“You’re the one making it complicated with your question, you twat,” Amina bit back with an affectionate sneer.

“I hate you.”

Willa reclined in her seat. “I would.”

“Yeah, you sure?” Sahar muttered.

“Positive,” she said, then turned to Amina. “Too bad you missed him today, Mina. The man’s fit as fuck.”

“That’s because you have a glasses kink,” Sahar retorted.

“You’re telling me you don’t think Jay is objectively attractive?”

Sahar tried not to give in to the whirling thoughts in her mind. Of course, she thought he was attractive. Anyone could see that. But admitting to finding him attractive was another added intricacy to her already convoluted thoughts. “Okay, yes, he’s fit. Happy?”

“Over the moon,” Willa replied.

“It’s all good. I’ll come back one of these days when you two are working just to see this specimen who’s got my no-nonsense sister tripping over her words.”

“I’m not tripping over my words,” Sahar argued.

“If that helps you sleep better at night, feel free to keep telling yourself that, boo. But also, you’re allowed to havefeelings. Especially today of all days, my Tony-nominated little queen,” her sister rebutted.

Willa’s mouth quirked at the edges. “Did you write a speech?”

Sahar grimaced. “No, and before you start with me, I’d straight up stand at that podium and reject the award if I won it over Jodi Holbrook. I’mstillhaunted by her performance inThe Ongoing Train. She has it in the bag, and if she doesn’t, ooh boy, the theatre league will hear my wrath.”

Both Amina and Willa laughed.

“See, you can’t even disagree because you know I’m right. Your guy deserves it. Naomi does, too. But I’m up against that goddess extraordinaire, and my name next to hers on the nomination list is already a win.”

Scowling, Amina said, “Why’d you drag my arse here if you had no hopes of winning? What am I supposed to brag about at the office?”

Sahar playfully kicked her foot. “And here I was thinking you wanted to support my first nomination out of the goodness of your heart and your unyielding pride in my glorious talents.”

“Or I just really wanted five days off work,” Amina joked.

Sahar stuck out her tongue. “Twat.”

“I’d still give the award to you if I had a say in it,” Willa said.

Sahar blew an air kiss at her. “Because you’re an angel.”

“No, because you’rethatgood.”

“It’s rather unfair that my work bestie was transferred. I miss this,” Amina noted, looking from Sahar to Willa.

“Please do not remind me. I’ve been so emotional about the end of this show’s run, and it’s not even close. But wait, didn’t you say Paulette would be back?”
