She had to end things.
PRESENT DAY
Sahar woke up to her alarm blaring. Confused and still tired, she snoozed it three times before remembering that she had a dentist appointment at 9:30 a.m.
She grumbled, pulling her blanket over her head.
Opening her phone up finally, she noticed a text from Jay, remembering that after they’d been messaging back and forth, he’d said he’d call at the end of the night.
JAY
Hey, sunshine. You awake?
She had crashed after her spiral, clearly.
SAHAR
So sorry! I knocked out.
Tell him everything, Sahar. Put it out there. She heard Willa’s advice again.
But she wanted to keep Jay.
She didn’t want him to run when he saw all of her.
Sighing, she sat up and swung her legs off the mattress. Sahar stretched her bad ankle first, rolling it slowly in the manner Jenny had advised. The pain was mostly gone, but she’d keep the stirrup on for another week while performing.
Her phone buzzed on her nightstand.
JAY
No worries. How are you? How’s your ankle?
This sweet, sensible man. A logical part of her brain knew that Jay was patient, honest, and kind. She could accept that he’d wanted her for a while now—it was what he’d admitted to. It was what he’dshownher.
SAHAR
Much better, and I mean that.
He answered right away.
JAY
Good good. Will you be back at work tomorrow?
SAHAR
Yes! Will I see you?
JAY
My shift ends at 1, and then I’m meeting Pat to talk about his additions to the finale. When will you get in?
SAHAR
I have PT with Jenny at 4:30, so I’ll probably be at the theatre by 4.
