Dain groaned into Livie’s sweat-damp neck.

“Guess you gotta go, huh?” she murmured, her breath tickling his ear.

He didn’t move. “I’mnot going anywhere; you’re coming with me.”

“I am?”

“You are.” He couldn’t stand to be separated from her right now. Maybe ever. How they’d work that out with a baby, he didn’t know, but Daddy had been here first, so he got dibs.

He shook his head at himself even as he squeezed down the slightest bit harder on Livie. His throat went tight. “One thing we need to get straight, wife.”

“What’s that?”

Another knock on the door. “Dain? Stop fucking around and get your ass out here.” King.

“They’ve sent in reinforcements,” Livie said, amused.

Dain ignored the door and lifted up to stare into her unusual eyes, trying to convey through the intensity of his look how goddamn much he needed her to understand his words, even if it took his best alpha-male commander bossiness. “Livie…don’t ever hide something from me again. Don’t. I need to know what’s going on with you. Always, got it?” He didn’t think he could live through this again, not without his heart stopping. He couldn’t. He needed his wife and child safe and sound, always.

Livie smirked, just like she always did when he tried to boss her around and she had no intention of following “orders.” How many times had he seen that look since they married? But this time he meant it.

When he said exactly that, she didn’t get mad. Mutiny didn’t make an appearance. Instead she rubbed her nose against his and stared into his eyes with green and brown innocence that instantly made him suspicious. “Yes, husband.” A kiss, a reassurance. His cock jerked where it rested, still inside her warm depths. “I won’t hide from you. But…there’s nothing to hide now, is there?”
