“Who said we are leaving before sunset, lovely one?” I kept my voice low, pulling just a little of the Dom voice out on her. I delighted in the way she responded, how she shivered from my words alone. I was anxious and antsy to see just how much reaction I could pull from her using my words alone.

I sat back in my spot, my eyes focusing back out over the scenery.

“So, I found this place and I realized that this exact spot and the home I was building here, would be my haven. My safe space away from it all. Not in Zion, not in town, I decided it was where I would make my home and where I would allow myself to be exactly myself, unashamed and purely honest.”

“That’s beautiful, Levi. And the home you’ve built here is incredible,” she praised and I preened under it, finding her kind words encouraging and satisfying.

“Here, try this,” I offered, building up a wheat cracker with a piece of brie cheese and apricot jam. I held the bite out to her. She realized I wanted to feed it to her, and she blushed beautifully. “Open.”

The command was out of my mouth before I could think. But then she looked up at me from under her lashes and opened her mouth, accepting my offer and, Christ Almighty, did it stir within me. My Dominance was tightly reigned in and chomping at the bit to come out and play with this stunning woman. Her tongue slipped out and swiped the small bit of jam off of my thumb before her eyes closed and she moaned at the flavor.

“That is incredible,” she sighed.

“Isn’t it? Zeke makes some incredible jam and—”

“Wait. Your brother, Ezekiel? He made this?” Her eyes popped open in surprise.

“The one and only. He has a small bit of land that is directly off of Malachi’s property. He has a small hobby farm there. A small garden and a few fruit trees. He’s been creating things like this for a few years, but we really only use it amongst ourselves. We like to keep things private out here,” I explained.

“It sounds like the five of you are close. Is that true, or is that also a bit of an act?” she asked, building another bite for herself.

“That’s no act. We’re actually closer than most know,” I explained. She built another bite, swapping the apricot jam for the tomato jam. A completely different flavor profile. Sweet and savory and delicious. She held the bite out to me and I couldn’t say no. I leaned forward, taking the bite into my mouth and making sure my tongue moved across the pads of her fingertips where she held it.

I chewed slowly, my eyes locked on hers, and swallowed. I flicked my tongue out, cleaning the non-existent crumbs from her fingertips, delighted when she shivered in response.

“Delicious,” I murmured darkly.

“How do you do that?” she whined breathlessly.

“How do I what?” I pressed, taking her wrist and pulling her hand close again. I kissed the pad of each fingertip.

“That,” she sighed.

“This?” My kisses turned into open mouth kisses, my tongue tasting just for a moment on each fingertip.

“Yes,” she whimpered. I released her hand and shrugged. She literally pouted at the loss of contact and I laughed out loud.

“Oh, lovely one. There will be much more where that came from.” That seemed to appease her, and we settled into light conversation and sharing bites of food as the afternoon progressed.

“So, are your brothers like you?” she finally asked a while later.

“What, you mean devilishly handsome and addicted to salty meats and cheeses?” I chuckled, popping a slice of apple into my mouth with a grin. She rolled her eyes and scoffed.

“No, I mean into the things you’re into.”

“Well, I don’t really like to speak for them. But yes, we share similar desires for things. If you want to know more about that, I will need to talk to my brothers about it first,” I explained. “But they are all very respectful and we honor each other by keeping these secrets.”

“It must be incredible. To have siblings who would take secrets to the grave for you.” Her words caught me off guard.

“Is it not the same way for you and your sisters?”

“Oh, goodness no! If Adah found out I was out having a picnic and kissing my husband outside of our home, I’m sure she would run right up to the Reverend and tattle,” she laughed.

“We will have to be careful around others, Ruth,” I stated, my tone turning serious.

“I know, Levi. You can trust me,” she soothed my worries, her hand finding mine again. I visibly relaxed at her words. It had never crossed my mind that perhaps not all siblings were as steadfast and trustworthy as mine were.

“I find that you are too far away. May I hold you, Ruth?” I asked, wanting to curl up with her and watch the clouds. She nodded, smiling. She stood, brushing off her long skirt before moving to my side of the blanket and sitting between my thighs, both of us looking out over the ridge. I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her in snug, her head resting just below my chin. It was perfect.
