“Malice check-in.”
“What’s taking you two so long? We’re outside the building, ready to go in and party.”
“Wait for us. We go in together,” Chaos demands. We move quickly, catching up with our brothers on the south side of the building.
“Their security is shit,” Malice says as we arrive.
“Just like the last place. They don’t seem to have a care in the world.”
“Well, we’re about to give them one.”
Chaos nods, and we all move in unison, fanning out around the building like it’s second nature. I come across two men with beers in their hands, and they’re so fuckin’ out of it, they don’t even notice the danger walking right up to them. The one closest to me, a big motherfucker about my size but not in the athletic shape I am, tips his head back with the bottle of beer at his lips, and I figure this is as good a way as any to keep the pig quiet. I grab the back of his head with one hand while I use the palm of the other to slam the bottle into his mouth with full force. He jerks and gags, blood pouring from his mouth as his eyes roll to the back of his head. I slit his throat for good measure, letting him collapse to the ground.
Looking to my side, Chaos has taken care of the other one, his lifeless body slumped against the building in a pool of his own blood. Then I hear it: two rapid-fire gunshots and a piercing scream that have me running toward the front of the compound.
“Rogue!” I hear Chaos calling my name, but I’ve snapped. They know we’re here now, and it’s only a matter of time before they have no use for her anymore. It’s fucking now or never.
Members of the Iron Wolves file out of the building, and then all hell breaks loose. There are more of us than there are of them, but it’s still a fight. One of our prospects takes a hit to his chest, his body crumbling to the ground in agony, the broken gravel below stained crimson as his blood seeps from the fatal shot.
We’re pushed back farther from the entrance of the garage as we fight to take them down. Their members are slow, drunk, and too drugged up to put up a good fight, but even firing a gun at random will eventually hit a mark. I take down two more of their men, as my brothers fight around me. Chaos is a ruthless fighter, choosing to use a knife instead of a gun as long as he can. He gets close to his enemies and cuts one after the other down, their throats bleeding them out dry.
I wipe the sweat and blood from my forehead as I do a quick scan of the property, noting that every Iron Wolf either fled or was killed. Chaos nods to me as he reaches my side, ready to head into the crumbling garage. Nerves suddenly fill me as I lunge forward.
“Let me fucking go!” Kinsey screams, and my heart fucking takes off behind my ribcage. Hearing her voice, even in this scenario, is like music. We got here in time. She appears a moment later in the open doorway of the building, my brothers and I standing just fifteen feet away, waiting with guns ready. She’s so fucking close.
My relief at seeing Kinsey alive is short-lived as I take in the mean looking asshole staggering out of the house with his hand outstretched, fist clenched into her hair. Kinsey’s arms claw at his hand, trying to alleviate some of the pressure he’s causing as she stumbles. Rope binds one of her wrists, and all I see is red.
I take a step forward, Chaos’ hand shooting out and pressing against my chest, his arm outstretched, preventing me from going to her. A flashback of a similar scenario flashes behind my eyes, and I nearly crumble.
How have I been so fucking stupid? Camden warned me they’d come for me. I never should have left her alone. Once again, my choices have hurt someone innocent. I’m a walking fucking shell after losing Lena, losing Kinsey would put me six feet under to join them. There’s no surviving this.
So that leaves me with one option. Losing her isn’t it.
“Reid!” Kinsey screams, her voice strong and pissed off, butI can hear the tremble. She’s scared shitless. I grip my gun between two hands, contemplating taking the shot, knowing I could take him out without harming her.
“Hold on, sweetheart. You’ll be in my arms in less than three minutes.”
“That so? You dumb motherfucker! Don’t you see? She’s not going anywhere! This bitch is ours!” the unnamed asshole slurs, jerking her head around as if to prove his point. She screams in pain, and I swear I will rip him limb from fucking limb for hurting her. My hand clenches into a fist, and the other digs into the grip of my gun.
“Just hand her over, you’re done here. Look around, your boys’ bodies are scattered everywhere. There’s no one here to back you up. Your prez isn’t here to save you. It’s just you against us. Hand over our woman, and you can walk away,” Chaos negotiates.
“Fuck you! Prez claimed her for himself. He gets what he wants. She’s staying with me!”
The growl that works its way up from my chest comes from somewhere deep and primal. No one had better have laid a fucking finger on her. Before I can register what happened, the asshole howls in pain, his head falling backward as blood pours from his nose. Kinsey twists out of his hold, his hand still firmly holding onto her fucking hair, kicking him hard in the junk. He releases her as he drops to his knees, and I’ve never been so fucking proud in my entire life.
The next few seconds are a blur. I’m moving just as Kinsey bolts in my direction, and within a few seconds, she’s launching herself at me, just as two shots go off from next to me. I don’t flinch as I catch her midair, the warmth of her body seeping into mine as she collapses in my arms. Her arms wrap around my neck as her legs tighten around my waist. Kinsey’s muffledsobs nearly shatter me as she buries her face in my neck, hanging onto me like her life depends on it.
“It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay,” I whisper, my arm wrapped around her little body, my other threaded through her matted hair, holding her head, trying to fuse her to me.
After a few moments, I pull her back so I can see her face, needing her eyes on me, desperate to see that she’s okay. I haven’t been able to take full stock of any possible injuries yet, and it’s killing me. I need to know what happened to her in there. I won’t be able to rest easy until I know every single detail. I have to.
Grasping her face, I drop my forehead to hers, our noses touching. “I’ve got you. You’re safe, sweetheart. I’m here. You’re safe. I’m not going to let anything happen to you.” I pepper her cheeks and forehead with kisses, gripping her so tight, I’m probably hurting her.
Jesus fucking Christ, she’s alive. I’ll get her through everything else. My little fighter.
Chaos and other members circle around the property, checking for survivors as I move farther away from the mayhem. I continue to whisper words of reassurance to her, making promises I’ll do everything I can to keep.
“Get her out of here!” Chaos barks in my direction. “Rolo, Jesse! Flank him!”
