As Stone continued to chew the bite he had taken, my stomach reminded me of how hungry I was. The last meal I had was yesterday morning. Stepping past him as he continued to eat, I headed toward the kitchen. “You need to get Davian on the phone. I’ll be down as soon as I get a bite to eat.”

“What’s going on, Axe?”

I trusted Stone with my life, but I would rather tell what I knew once instead of explaining things to Stone and then Davian. “Wilkerson and Harris might be on their way to Chicago. Call Davian and I’ll explain everything.”

Five minutes later, I was headed down the stairs to the computer room with two sandwiches in hand. When I entered the room, Stone was talking to Davian with the speaker on. “I’m not sure Davian. You will need to ask Axe yourself.”

Swallowing the last bite from the first sandwich I had made, I took a seat next to Stone. “Davian, Wilkerson and Harris might be on their way to Chicago.”

“What the fuck, Axe? Davian cursed. “I thought I told you to stay put. The last thing we need is for you to end up in jail.”

“I wasn’t planning on running into those two. I just wanted to have a chat with the housekeeper again,” I explained. “Wilkerson and Harris were at Stevenson’s house when I got there. I had everything I needed to clear my name until Wilkerson hit me over the head. They took my truck and my cell with his recorded confession. The housekeeper is missing, too.”

“Stone,” Davian called out.

“Yeah, Boss.”

“Don’t let Axe out of your sight,” Davian ordered sharply. There was a touch of annoyance in his voice when he summoned me. “Axe.”

“Yeah,” I replied.

“Please, don’t do anything stupid.”

Before I could ask about Kenzi, Davian ended the call. I knew if he had any news on her, he would have said. I pushed away the plate with my remaining sandwich since I was no longer hungry. When I turned to face Stone, he had a shit-eating grin on his face. He knew he held all the cards, and it pissed me off. No matter how right Davian was, there was no way in hell I was going to be treated like a child. If Stone thought for one minute that he was going to be my babysitter, he had another think coming.

Kenzi

Not only did River keep his promise, he ended up worshipping me twice in the bedroom and then again in the shower. Stretching my five-foot-five body, I rolled over to my side and looked at the red display on the alarm clock. It was 12:00 p.m. I was a morning person and never had I slept in so late. I threw my head back on the fluffy pillow when it finally sunk in that I had wasted away the entire morning. Struggling to get out of bed, I pulled the sheet free from the covers and wrapped it around my body.

Slowly opening the door, I padded toward the living room, careful not to trip over the excess sheet dragging on the floor. The first thing I noticed was the patio door wide open with the sheer curtains blowing freely inside from the warm breeze. The weather was unseasonably warm for September and it saddened me that winter was right around the corner.

I made it to the patio door with no mishaps and noticed River stretched out on the outdoor sectional, heavy in thought. I walked toward him and stopped when I stood in front of him. His eyes met mine and his smile was enough to heat me from head to toe. There was something different about him. His wavy thick hair was combed back away from his face. The beard he once had was gone, showing his strong chin that was previously completely hidden. What was the most appealing were his lips. Never had I seen more kissable lips than his.

The way he was looking at me caused me to drop my sheet and expose myself completely to him. Even though we barely knew each other, there was something about him that made me have feeling for him. I didn’t care that I was naked or that anyone in the surrounding buildings could see my vulnerability. Somehow, I felt safe.

Lifting one leg and then the other, I straddled his lap and placed my hands against his chest. Lowering my head, I pressed my lips to his. River moved his hands up my torso and along my back, pulling me closer to deepen the kiss. This, right now, was perfect and everything I wanted. The rugged man I’d only known for a short time was everything I needed. Grinding my sex against his groin, I felt his cock come to life.

I had to have more. Rubbing my hand along his jawline, I smiled and said, “I like this look on you.”

River smiled his brilliant smile, making his eyes seem even bluer than they were. He lowered his head and his lips engulfed my taut nipple, sending me on my way to heaven. I forked my hands through his hair, holding his head right where it needed to be. I wanted to protest when he removed his lips from my nipple, but only for a moment. When I lowered the zipper to his jeans, his cock sprang free. Adjusting my position, I took hold of his shaft and lined it up with my entrance. Slowly, I lowered my body on to his and moved my hips down and then upward, taking him fully. If this was how heaven felt, I never wanted to leave.

“God, you feel so good, baby. You are just what I needed,” River whispered as he placed his lips against the curve of my neck.

“I’m glad to help out, but the truth is, so are you.” Until a few weeks ago, I thought Axe and I would forever be together, but now I only wanted River. I didn’t want what we had together to end. Even though there was a large age gap between us, it didn’t matter.

Each thrust brought me closer and closer to my release. Trying hard to will myself to hold back, I could no longer keep my orgasm at bay. Crying out his name, my release came and my body fell against his, completely satisfied.

The world around us didn’t exist until his cell vibrated against the metal coffee table. Holding me in place, River picked up his cell while still deep inside me. I released my hold on him and turned my head to see who the caller was. ‘Unknown’ appeared above a number I knew by heart.

Before I could tell River who it was, he answered the call. “Hello. Who is this?”

I reached for River’s phone and pressed the speaker icon. This was a call I needed to hear. “Davian, how did you get this number?” I asked.

“Kenzi, are you all right?” Davian asked with concern in his tone.

Looking at River, I said, “I’m fine.” I reassured him. “Why are you calling? If it is about Axe and the explosion, I already know. You can let him know that we are over. I never want to see him again.”
