“Go, Axe. There is no telling what McBride will do, and keeping Kenzi safe is our top priority.”
Thankfully Davian and I were on the same page. Within seconds, I drove away from the warehouse and back to the apartment. No way could I allow Levi McBride to get close to Kenzi. As I headed downtown toward the apartment, my phone pinged with a text,‘Where the fuck are you?’As much as I needed to be with Kenzi, I needed to take care of this shit with Wilkerson first. With one hand on the steering wheel, I texted him with the other,‘On my way. Be there in five.’

My meeting with Wilkerson didn’t go as planned. I should have told him where he could stick it, but instead, I faltered and agreed to do this job for him. All kinds of shit were hitting the fan, and the last thing I wanted was to put Kenzi in more danger than she already was. Throwing the file Wilkerson gave me on the passenger seat, I started my truck and pulled away from the coffee shop. As I looked in my review mirror, Wilkerson was waving goodbye.Cocky prick.
As I got closer to my apartment, I could feel the manilla folder lying on my seat staring back at me, literally mocking me for allowing Wilkerson to get to me. Opening the glove box, I stuffed the folder inside. Out of sight, out of mind wasn’t exactly true. Even after parking my truck and heading inside my apartment building, the folder hidden inside the glove box still hung over me. I had to pull myself together.
When I pushed open the door and saw Kenzi, my focus switched to her. Even though she was relaxing on the couch, I knew she was pretending. Her expression didn’t lie. She was scared, and rightly so. Wanting nothing more than to reassure her that everything would be okay, I walked over to the couch and took a seat in front of her on the coffee table.
I took her hands in mine, but even then, she wouldn’t look at me. “Kenzi, please look at me.”
When her eyes met mine, I could tell that she had been crying. It explained why she refused to look at me. Her vulnerability was the last thing she wanted me to see. Kenzi was one of the strongest women I knew. “Whatever happens, baby, I am never going to leave you. We will work through this together.”
I didn’t expect my confession to cause her to cry more. She was pulling at my heartstrings, and it killed me seeing her this way. Lifting her from the couch, I stood and sat down on the couch with her tied to my lap. No way could I let her go. “Shh, baby. Please don’t cry.”
“Everything is such a mess, Axe,” Kenzi sobbed, letting it all out. “What am I going to do? I’m supposed to meet Levi tomorrow, and I don’t know if I can.”
Whether she liked it or not, there was one thing I knew. She wouldn’t be the one meeting with Levi tomorrow.

Kenzi
Axe was completely insane if he thought I would allow him to meet with Levi instead of me. Besides the fact that I would never allow it, Levi would never meet Axe. Axe was a big man, and his size would intimidate Levi. Shifting my weight, I turned to straddle Axe’s legs. “If I don’t go, he will know something is wrong. I need to find out what he is up to.”
It was a lame excuse, but the only one I had. Giving Axe something else to think about, I pressed my lips to his. I loved the way his lips felt against mine. Not only was Axe a great kisser, but he was also a great lover, and a little love was just what I needed. After last night, Axe made me want him more than ever. Without hesitation, I lifted my halter up over my head and tossed it on the floor. Following suit, Axe removed his t-shirt and dropped it to the floor. He was all male as I ran my hands along his well-defined pecs and down his six-pack abs.
“God, I love your body,” I breathed in between kisses as I worked the button on his jeans.
“Not as much as I love yours, baby,” Axe confessed, gliding his hand under my butt and lifting me from the couch. “How about we take this to the bedroom?”
“Mm-hmm,” I sighed in agreement.
Axe lowered my body onto the bed and ran his hand across my cheek. His smile was beautiful, but it was his eyes that made me wither. They were full of mystery and pulled me in. When he leaned in, he pressed his sweet lips to mine. The passion I had for Axe tingled through my body as my hands swept across his back. He was perfect under my small hands, firm and ripped with layers and layers of nothing but muscle.
Breaking our kiss, Axe rose from the bed and positioned himself between my legs. I could feel my nipples harden through my strapless bra as I watched Axe unfasten my jeans and slowly lower them down my legs. Axe brushed his thumb over my nub; a mischievous grin splashed across his face. “Don’t tease me, Axe. I need you now.”
“I need you too, but I want this to last,” he choked, barely able to control himself.
As though my head weighed a ton, I let it fall to the bed in frustration. As his thumb continued to work my clit through the material of my panties, my secret self was getting wetter and wetter. “You should have been here last night instead of at Reyna’s. Do you know how many cold showers I had to take to relieve myself?”
“Oh God, Axe,” I cried as he slipped his finger beneath my panties and inside me.
“That’s it, baby. I want to hear you scream my name.”
“Please!” I cried, “Please don’t stop, Axe.”
When I was tipping on the edge of losing control and screaming at the top of my lungs, Axe pulled away from me and twisted my panties between his fingers. I felt a shift in the mattress, which caused me to believe that Axe would soon give me the relief I needed. Raising my head from the bed, I focused on him as he slowly entered me. Thrust for thrust was heaven, a pleasure I didn’t want to end. Burying himself deep inside me, my body shook as he bought me to the edge of rapture. With my body riding against his, I shattered into pieces. Wave after wave of pleasure coursed through me as Axe spun over the edge, with breaths of pure satisfaction coming in gasps.
Axe rolled off me, his chest still heaving and his erection still at half-mast. I twisted my body toward his and rested my head on his shoulder. I felt the rise and fall of his chest. “This doesn’t change anything, baby. I’m still meeting Levi tomorrow.”
“No, Axe, you aren’t,” I said as I moved away from him in search of my jeans. As frustrated as he was, I was more. This was my problem, and I needed to deal with it on my own. Interrupted by a knock at the door, the height that this argument would reach was placed on hold.
Axe slipped on his jeans and headed to the door while I went to the bathroom to clean up. I purposely left the bathroom door open a crack to hear Axe greet the visitor. Even though we weren’t expecting anyone, the minute I heard Patton’s voice, I knew something was up. No way was I going to miss this conversation, so I grabbed a t-shirt from my drawer and headed out of the bedroom. There was a reason Patton was here, and it must have been important for him to show up instead of calling. It didn’t surprise me to find Axe and Patton staring at me when I entered the living room. Axe was still at the front door, while Patton still lingered in the hallway. “You two look like you were caught with your hands in the cookie jar. What’s going on?”
I’ve never known either one of them to be silent. Axe moved his gaze to Patton. “You better come in and tell Kenzi what you found out,” Axe began. “She has a right to know about the man she killed.”
